I saw a review where someone claimed their partner was “forced” to buy ramen before entering—let’s clear that up. No one is forcing you to buy anything. Like many smaller eateries, they may expect each person to order at least one item, but that’s just common etiquette, especially in a busy, touristy area. If unsure, just ask the staff—no big deal.
Now, onto the food. Yes, you place your order at the entrance, and the menu is limited, but that’s actually a good thing. What they do serve, they do exceptionally well. I had the Truffle Ramen with an added egg, and it was absolutely delicious. They even offered a free extra serving of noodles, but I had to pass (for the sake of my waistline).
Service? No issues at all. The guy at the door was super friendly and just matter-of-fact—nothing rude about it.
One thing to note—they don’t serve alcohol, which is actually a nice change. If you’re coming from Taipei or staying locally, 鷄道樂 is definitely worth a visit for a simple yet satisfying...

I came across this ramen joint when strolling in Tamsui, a common day trip from Taipei.
First, the ordering machine has english, which is convenient. Also the staff was very caring to walk me through our options.
The bowl of toripaitan (chicken cream) was outstanding. The broth was extremely flavorful but not too salty, the topping was a pink shashu melting in your mouth and the chicken shashu was sous-vide and extremely tender.
Icing on the cake, you have a free refill of fresh noodles that will fill up the big eater. The noodles are firm and springy, just as O like.
Even the luxury bowl is 270TWD, cheaper than what you get in Taipei because the shop is in Tamsui.
Their craft is proof that Taiwan ramen scene is on point with Japan and deserve a lot of praise.
