無名米糕 — Restaurant in Tainan

In a modest bowl, nestled against the backdrop of a well-worn table, I found something truly special — a Tainan-style lu rou fan that didn’t just satisfy hunger, but touched the heart.

At first glance, it was deceptively simple. No frills, no extravagant garnish — just a warm mound of rice lovingly drenched in braised pork belly sauce. But from the very first bite, the magic revealed itself.

The pork, cut into generous, glistening cubes, was impossibly tender — melting on the tongue like butter, yet still offering that perfect hint of bite. Braised slowly in soy sauce, rice wine, and a medley of spices, each piece was rich, savory, and deeply aromatic, with a subtle sweetness that’s characteristic of Tainan’s...

The food here is excellent and I love that they have English menus as well for foreign travellers. Admittedly, they accidentally sent the wrong item over during the meal (and it happened to the table next ti me as well) but I was able to communicate and they replaced the dish.

The fried milkfish belly came out sizzling from the fryer, the milkfish skin is also excellent and flavorful. The pork belly rice was sadly a little bit mushy, but still the flavor was great.

There is not much seating because it is a small place. But I highly recommend this restaurant and it is one of the few saved locations I have in Taiwan and I hope to return...

The flavors are super nostalgic and remind me of my family and grandmother's cooking super affordable and filled with love! Fried fatty milkfish belly is crispy and delicious, especially paired with huge and cheap bowl of sweet potato leaf porridge also like the dry noodles with chicken meat a whole ton!!
