A Memorable Culinary Experience at The Authors' Lounge
Atmospheric Delight: Excellence in Vibes
The Authors' Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Bangkok, provided the perfect backdrop for our gathering of good friends. The atmosphere was exceptional, radiating calm and serenity, setting the stage for a beautiful time. The pianist played soothing music to enhance the setting and feeling of being entertained in the verandah of the cozy mansion.
Service Stars: Attentive and Pleasant
The attentive service here struck the right balance, ensuring we felt comfortable without overwhelming us. The excellent team spirit of all the ladies in the elegant uniform led to a smooth flow of service and a heartfelt thank you to Khun THANYALAK, whose charming, focused, and occasional smiles made our visit even more enjoyable.
Culinary Creativity: Presentation Perfection
When it comes to food, the Autumn and Oriental set genuinely shine. The presentation of these dishes is a testament to well-thought-out creativity. They not only tasted great but looked stunning, too.
A Dash of Improvement: Food for Thought
While the presentation of the vegan and gluten-free offerings is simple and traditional, there's room for enhancement. More innovation in the display could elevate the overall experience.
The food consistently meets expectations, yet it tends to lean slightly towards sweetness with an abundance of mousse-based items. Introducing a selection of savory options to the menu would be a delightful enhancement.
A Must-Visit Destination for Every Occasion

Read moreWas there for afternoon tea. The atmosphere is breathtaking. Embedded in the famous Mandarin Oriental Hotel Bangkok the Authors Lounge provides sophisticated and timeless elegant atmosphere. They provide three different types of afternoon tea: the classic , the Thai version with Thai food influenced components of the same thing and a vegan version. I’ve was curious for the Thai version Button me as a pescatarian it contains too much meat components. I’ve chosen the classic one with slight adjustments which were easily done. The presentation, the art of making and most important taste is from another galaxy . I’ve done most of the London Luxury Hotel teas ( Ritz, Dorchester, Corinthia, Royal Horseguards and Savoy) but this event was providing a brilliant quality. It started with a sorbet, followed by the classical components , three different really fresh and warm scones served with real Devonshire clotted cream and jam , superb choice of sandwiches and pastries from the patisserie bel Etage . You might have a glass of Tattinger Champagne and a huge selection of Premium teas. Finally they even offer cookie selections. In case that you can’t eat it all they provide take away options and you’ll have nice left overs next day.
Service is on the highest level you can imagine , always attentive and fulfilling every additional wish. Pricing is appropriate with 2000 THB and worth every single Baht. Compared to the UK prices it’s a clear must have . You hardly find a better return on investment if you like afternoon teas.

Read moreAuthor's Lounge oozes history and trad vibes. Grammable from every angle (and some patrons really seem to enjoy this aspect!) Walls are adorned with super colonial era images.
Impeccable service - attentive and unintrusive. Even had a chappy appear for some fingerstyle renditions of jazz standards, wedding catalogue classical and even a happy birthday. Every guest must order a meal which comes up to quite a lot of food. They also come round at the end to ask if you would like to double up on any of the items! If you were already struggling, extra items can be packed away though.
Spring afternoon tea set was delicately put together and presented in a slightly hazardous shelf hidden inside a hardback "book". Strawberry jelly on the champagne foam a little rubbery and a challenging cut with the spoon. Oriental tea set started out punchy (dried pulled pork and a hot and garlicy stuffed pepper). Spoiled the palate a bit for the rest of the meal. Skin on the dumplings was a little on the thick side. Again, some over gelatine'd items in the sweets.
The drip coffee is made tableside with a bit of fanfare (scales, a handgrinder and pourover into some fancy fancy round-bottomed double-walled glassware). A very inoffensive blend of Blue Mountain and Mae Taeng resembles a cafe du monde with less attack. Twist of orange and honeycomb mellows it out even more.
Go for the experience, but I'm sure you can do better with food...
