POOR SERVICE, POOR ATTITUDE, NO VEG OPTIONS, OVER BILLING
We are writing about the terrible experience we had at the Normandie Restaurant today.
a) On arrival the staff appeared not to find the reservation and made us sit on a small sofa for some time. Then we were led to our table. We had made reservations via the hotel concierge and also clearly mentioned we were vegetarian.
b) When we saw the menu it was different from the one on the web site. There were only two vegetarian options - one starter and one main course. Both sounded very sad and the staff did not care when we said that these were no options at all - and we would have nothing to eat. They did not care at all - it appeared they were hoping we would leave.
c) As we were already there, and the hotel had no other options - except the Veranda - we decided to order a cheese platter.
d) Our drinks arrived but even after 15 mins no bread basket was offered. We had to ask and even then, it arrived after a few minutes. The staff did not have any concern that their guests were reduced to having a drink, bread and cheese. No effort was made to offer food options or prepare something for us. This always happens at classy places.
e) The cheese platter was served with poor grace - even at this stage the cheese platter could have been served with crackers, some grapes or other fruit just to makeup for not being able to serve food.
f) The service was indifferent and really poor throughout.
g) When the bill was presented they tried to charge two people for three cheese platters. (We had ordered only one !) This was adding insult to injury. We got some lame excuse from the manager about being only 6 cheeses per platter. While I did not count, we certainly did not have 18 different cheeses. In any case, this should have been mentioned at the start of the service. When I pointed out the poor experience the manger said they would not charge. The manager leads by poor example - if the gentlemen was indeed the manager. His attitude was among the worse.
The most upsetting thing was the attitude of the team at...
Read moreLet me start off by saying the service was really good. The host, waiter, and sommelier were great.
Probably the worst food experience of my life. Either michelan star restaurants suck, or this place does...
Let me also say this was my first Michelin star. Maybe I'm just a poor boy from the states but the food was kinda gross, I had to wash it down with a swig of water after each bite. I'd rather have a high end (non Michelin star) restaurant any day, like a Ruth Chris Steakhouse.
I'm sure the 1% will likely argue against this review and that's fine, they can spare spending $700.00 on a meal and not bat an eye. I was expecting $700.00 to be breathtaking and the best foot of my life.. Sadly, it was not the case..it was just average. Not worth the price.
Other than the food, the other frustration was the odd dress code. They require men wear a suit jacket.. But they don't care if people come in wearing a Nike t-shirt and jeans. I came in with slacks and a formal shirt and tie and was required to wear a jacket. Even though it was 90+ outside, they didn't care. I even took it off due to the intense heat midway through my meal and I was asked to put it back on (what?). Girls came in with sandals, guys in designer tees, but heaven forbid they don't wear a jacket.. Pretty crazy and makes no sense at all. Some up tight chef who no one knows just wanting to ensure elitism while making average food.
Again, no shame on the wait staff, they did a great job. Very personable and friendly. The dude running the joint is...
Read moreunfortunately this is the first place where the poor recent reviews have had to be taken into account. Let's start from the beginning - wrong location on the map. the restaurant is listed opposite the church cathedral, but this is not true. we arrived at the alley and were looking for somewhere to go. the restaurant itself has 2 rows of tables, the first one is luckier - a view of the river, the second ones should apparently enjoy the backs of the first ones. not thought out. if the tables are all booked, seating is close and a bit noisy. The food is absolutely ordinary, some were simply tasty, some were tasteless. Steak with burnt sauce “like a chip” is a very strange decision. it was just terrible, we were sitting in a group and everyone didn’t like it. The sauce for the tasteless fish was simply salty, fish just with beans. The staff also didn’t ask at the end of the evening if we liked the dinner, and we wanted to leave quickly. I don’t know if it’s possible to indicate other restaurant names here. but there are much better 2 Michelin stars with French cuisine in Bangkok. This restaurant is not worth going to.
the price of the set was 10,000 baht. + 1500 bath glass of alcohol. + offer millimeter pieces of cheese for 900 baht. and food additives. in our case it was grated truffle for 2000 baht for three person. The staff were not warned that this was not included in the set and have price. Having ordered all this, we still weren’t full, the waiters joked about extra portions 🫠👍🏼
