Ate at the weekend brunch buffet. Made a reservation and was promptly seated just before 1130. We also booked a window view of the beautiful (lol) river but we found it was too bright to sit directly in the front. They changed us to the 2nd row back. I think all of the tables likely have a river view. Food I would give a 7.5/10. Service was 8.8/10. I am not including the fact that they claim to have king crab at the buffet (They do not). I was disappointed in that'. They did have a small amount of mud crab (red) claws and some small Canadian lobster both served chilled. The seafood was pretty decent. I loved the salmon and pickled herring. Yes there is three types of cured/smoked salmon. One is Dill crusted, orange infused and regular smoked. There is quite an extensive sushi/ sashimi bar and chef. The only things I would like to change is having the deserts labeled, meat was a tad dry (not the duck or ham though), and Foie gras was under seasoned. Attention to little details makes everyone happy. Here is some of what is included as of July 8th. the following are available live made to order- Pasta dishes (many), Cesar salad, som tum, and sushi/sashimi. I really liked it but honestly because they don't have king crab (other places do), I probably won't be going back. They also add a 10% service charge and 7% VAT charge. In total it was 6,000 baht...
Read moreI have made it a small tradition, that when I am in Thailand, to make sure to spend at least one weekend in Bangkok, and have a Sunday buffet at Lord Jim's. To get there you need to get to the BTS SkyTrain station , Saphan Taksin. Once there, call the hotel and they will send a river boat to pick you up at the pier, which in at one end of the station.
The food at Lord Jim's is superb. From the first bite to your last mouthful, excellence extraordinaire. This is well known and why Lord Jim's reputation is worldwide.
However, what many do not talk about is the service at Lord Jim's. The first time I came here, as a lone traveller, I was treated like a queen and this has continued to be true over the many years that I have come here.
Unfortunately, covid interrupted many travellers plans, mine included, coming back, after not having had a holiday in many months, is such a pleasure. Once again I was greeted like an old friend, and most especially, like I deserved to be in this glorious restaurant, and not like the poor student that I actually am.
The price reflects the food variety, taste, quality and quantity plus the service and atmosphere. The one thing I save my...
Read moreFirst time in Oriental Mandarin and our plan was to have a quick dinner before enjoying jazz at the Bamboo bar. (See review on Bamboo bar) Luckily we chose this restaurant. Everyone greeted us when we stepped into the restaurant, making us feel like royalty. We were seated near the window with a nice expansive view of the river and the colourful boats sailing by. Three of us had the white asparagus (seasonal), lamb loin, grilled leek, lobster bisque, organic corn fed chicken, grilled cod fish and potato millefeuille. Everything was delicious, only complaint was one of my asparagus was stringy and parts were inedible. The lobster bisque was one of the best I’ve ever tasted. Dipping the complimentary sourdough bread with special butter in the bisque was sinfully delicious. We ended up too full for dessert. Two other tables were celebrating birthdays showing how popular Lord Jim’s is. Price is not cheap but you definitely get great food...
