There Bar & Cafe — Restaurant in Bowon Niwet Subdistrict

We were looking for a place to hang out in the area. I went with two of my friends, we all live in here in Thailand and were not staying in their hostel called "Here." We walked in not knowing that we should order at the register first and take our number to a table. The middle-aged lady was very rude and short with her words. We felt rushed to pick what we wanted from the menu -- how were we supposed to know we couldn't sit at a table and order from the get-go? We found you on Google Maps. We didn't mind not be able to order from a table, but we shouldn't be given the "death stare"/look of impatience when we took only 3 minutes to decide. We sat and ate, and as we were about to move outside to the patio area, I was about to order another cocktail. She scolded and said "not serving anymore!" (this was at around 8 pm). I asked her when they would close and she said "11 pm." Everybody outside had a beer or a cocktail in hand. We didn't understand why we weren't welcomed from the very first sight of seeing us. We were not loud, rude, or drunk, and we spoke to her very politely, even when she was rude. Is it because we weren't your hostel guests? As soon as she was speaking to her hostel guests, she switched up her tone real fast. Business is business, we should be treated well when we are spending money at your establishment. What a shame. We immediately walked out after that and did not say a thing because she wasn't worth our words. We will absolutely not be returning. Other staff were nice enough, but that woman was...

Nice ambience, food not bad but a pity let down by terrible service thus the 1 star rating because it really spoilt the mood of my lunch group.

The café is part of a hostel in the old part of Bangkok near the Democracy Monument that was featured in a Thai architectural & interior YouTube channel. Didn't managed to see the rooms but the cafe & courtyard garden are nice.

Food & coffee was not bad BUT it took 1 hour before the food was served! The café wasn't full and we were the only guests that ordered food. We didn't order many food, just 3 rice dishes & 2 deep fried items.

The lady manager (I assumed) could have at least warned us before we ordered that the kitchen would take longer to cook our food instead she came out with a pathetic comment "not long to wait" (After an hour???) when we asked why our food is not out yet. 🤦‍♂️ It was as if the cook went out to buy the ingredients or was late for work!

Thai people are friendly but their customer recovery is sorely lacking despite tourism being one of the country's main industry...
