Amaka Bed & Breakfast is an amazing place to stay when visiting Chiang Mai. We’ve had such great experiences at Amaka that it’s become our favorite place to stay in all of Thailand. From the phenomenal customer service, super comfortable rooms, excellent amenities available, beautiful decor throughout, delicious breakfast options, strategic location, and extremely helpful and caring host, you’ll be sure to have a memorable and wonderful experience when staying at Amaka.
Location: One of Amaka’s best features is its great location because you’re literally within just a few minutes of everything! Being ideally placed just on the Northern edge of the old city, there’s plenty of convenient local shops and markets in the immediate vicinity but you’re still close enough to all of the major attractions and fun. It’s only a 10 minute drive from the airport so it’s easy and quick to get in and out. Closeby there’s a 7-Eleven, Tesco, SIM Card shop, pharmacy, and many different restaurants all within a 5 minute walking distance. At night there is a huge food market that you absolutely have to try within a 5 minute walk featuring some awesome local food and even a world famous stall featured by the late and great Anthony Bordain. By taxi it’s only a 7 minute taxi ride to the Night Bazaar or to the super trendy Nimman neighborhood and Maya Mall. We also loved how the location itself is quietly tucked away off of the main road but still able to easily access local shops or taxis to move around the city.
Facilities: We rarely spend time in our rooms but when we do, we feel comfortable and cozy. The rooms, just like everything else throughout, are decorated beautifully and leaves you feeling at peace and relaxed. The beds are big, comfortable, and soft. The room itself is sized perfectly for the two of us even with our luggage and purchased goodies. The bathroom and shower are modern, clean, and beautiful. One of our favorite amenities are the digital safes in each room. WiFi was fast and reliable, we didn’t use the TV, and there’s a small refrigerator which we find extremely convenient. Ice cold AC gets the room cool and fast.
Breakfast and Cafe: At first, I wasn’t expecting much for the included hot breakfast as I’ve been let down constantly by Amercan hotels but Amaka’s breakfast is simply EXCELLENT, don’t skip it! I love how their menu has a great balance of delicious authentic Thai dishes and Western favorites. They also put a nice focus on offering fresh fruits, Gluten Free, and more healthy options, which we really appreciate! Also don’t forget to try their coffee, juices, and teas! From their fresh brewed coffee, fresh pressed juices, and my personal favorite Butterfly Pea Tea, they offer quality drinks not just for breakfast but they’re also great to enjoy throughout the day as well. Also worth mentioning is that their Pad Kra Pow is one of the most authentic and delish renditions that I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying in Thailand. Overall great food and drinks!
Host: The amenities, location, service, and breakfast/cafe of Amaka are already outstanding but Urana (the host) is what makes Amaka not just good but truly amazing. She is extremely knowledgeable about the city and knows exactly where to send you if you need something (spa, massage, nail salon, money exchange). She gives great recommendations on restaurants, shopping, excursions, and adventures. She’s also incredibly helpful and even goes as far as leveraging her own personal connections to make your stay even better. She’s saved us a lot of time and money by sending us to her local contacts and recommendations. With her help we felt like locals getting an authentic experience. We’ve been able to explore amazing places off the beaten path, enjoy delicious local cuisine that we...
