Visited because I had a hankering for Indian food while in Chiang Mai and this place had good ratings. Stepped and and was welcomed warmly. Since I was a solo traveller and wanted some peace, I sat at the back of the restaurant which was nice. Good atmosphere with about 4 tables and 3 larger booths.
Was looking for a glass of wine, but unfortunately the choices of wine by the glass were in keeping with my experience in Chiang Mai...how do I put this delicately...awful. So instead I opted for my backup drink a Vodka Martini with a twist. This item is not on the menu, but they were kind enough to make if for me. A bit pricey but I cannot complain as they did inform me prior and it was very good!
From a food perspective I ordered a potato appetizer...cannot remember the name of it, was a bit of a boozy evening :-( but it was absolutely delicious, devoured it. For my main course I ordered the Dal Tarka and Basmati Rice, once again it did not disappoint. It was right on the edge of too much salt and chili but the chef managed to keep the balance and I loved and finished everything.
I feel bad for the owner whom I had a chat with, having to deal with some very demanding customers...not a lot of fun. One customer, a particularly affected woman only ate fish, but they were out of fish and it turned into a big discussion about her dietary preferences. Now if you recall, I wanted a quiet space, but alas to my chagrin, the couple was placed right beside me at one of the booths...shoot me. I finally interjected with my humble opinion that anyone coming to a nice Indian restaurant has access to some of the best tasting vegetarian options....so let go of the fish discussion and have a damn vegetable, it would do you good....some peoples children. Anyway the chef and the owner dealt with this issue in a professional manner and I took this opportunity to exit stage left.
Overall I would recommend this restaurant to anyone craving good Indian food...
Read moreAs we wandered through the vibrant Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai, we came across a person standing outside an Indian restaurant called Coconut and Bar. Curious about the food, we asked for an honest recommendation. With a confident smile, he said, “If you don’t like it, I’ll pay for it.” Intrigued and feeling like our money was safe, we decided to take him up on the challenge.
My Lord, we lost big time. The food was absolutely outstanding! Later, we discovered the man was none other than Virendra, the chef of the restaurant.
While enjoying our meal, we were greeted by another warm personality, Pramod Ji, the owner and also a chef. Pramod Ji isn’t just any chef—he has trained several chefs for Hard Rock Cafes around the world before deciding to bring his expertise home and create something of his own. His passion for hospitality made us feel right at home every time we visited.
One of his standout recommendations was a cocktail called the Guava Spicy Kick—a unique, out-of-this-world creation. On our final day, we had the pleasure of meeting the talented bartender, Nut, who treated us to a variety of cocktails. Our absolute favorite was his custom creation, the Aag Laga Denge (Fire It Up)—a bold and intense drink perfect for hardcore cocktail enthusiasts who enjoy something dark and with a strong buzz.
Coconut and Bar is not just a restaurant—it’s an experience. The food, the cocktails, and above all, the people make it a place we’ll never forget. If you’re in Chiang Mai, don’t miss it—you might lose a bet like we did, but it’ll be the best loss...
Read moreI recently dined at Indian Restaurant and Bar, and it was an absolutely delightful experience! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting, blending modern decor with a touch of traditional Indian charm.
The menu was extensive, offering a variety of authentic Indian dishes that catered to all tastes. I particularly loved the butter chicken and mutton curry —the flavors were rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. The garlic naan was fresh, fluffy, and paired beautifully with the curries.
The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, ensuring that we felt welcomed and our needs were met throughout the meal. They were knowledgeable about the menu and even recommended a few dishes that turned out to be amazing!
To top it off, the bar had an impressive selection of cocktails and beverages, perfectly complementing the food. The mango lassi martini was a standout!
Overall, Indian Restaurant and Bar delivers an exceptional dining experience with its delicious food, excellent service, and vibrant atmosphere. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy authentic Indian cuisine with a modern twist. I’ll definitely be coming...
