Short version: Food rather basic, service sub par. Not recommended. Detailed version: Reserved a table last minute, which seemed prudent for a Saturday. In difference to previous years most guests appeared to be Thais. Perhaps the German community shrunk during the pandemic. This is a new location. Not as charming and authentic as before. Rather cold… And I don’t mean the temperature. Nothing to do with the old Bei Otto. Anyhow we were promptly shown to our table, but then it took half an eternity to get the menus. I never quite get it, why the person showing you to your table cant provide the menu right away. The menu itself was a disappointment. No appetizers, other than soups, no salads, no brezeln, just super basic. We ended up ordering Haxen, Sausages, Flammkuchen etc. Beverages are ok-ish. Juices and shakes for the family, I enjoyed a Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen. Just finished my first Glass as I am typing this, and “I am your Lady” (power of Love) blaring on badly tuned speakers. We are now about 40 minutes here and no food in sight. Correction, admittedly we were served a breadbasket consisting of a refreshingly cold, yet chewy slice of multigrain bread and cubic centimeter butter. Now Barbara Streisand punishes my eardrums, but I have not abandoned hope that someone will ask if we perhaps would like another beverage…. I finally lost my cool and went to the bar to order drinks directly at the bar. Soups arrived. My daughters leek and potatoe soup served in a bread roll looked fantastic and according to her tasted great. My Wife handed me her Goulash soup. She is apprehensive to Paprika , so I got it. Taste was very good. Unfortunately the beef was tough. The overall impression did not get any better when I ended up chewing on an onion peel. Finally, the Main courses arrived. My wife and I enjoyed our pork knuckles. Also the sauerkraut and dumplings were tasty. Again the service disappointed. It would have been nice if we had not to ask for a simple condiment like mustard. That should be automatic, same as the chili sauce for Thai guests. Our kids were not as lucky with their choices. The Schnitzel was super thin, French fries cold, Cordon Blue overcooked and strange cheese… Anyway, in the end we all eat. We also planned to taste some German sausages, Otto was known for. They never arrived. We would have told a waiter about it, but as you may guessed by now, nobody ever even came to see us and asked the simple question “is everything alright”. We would have concluded our dinner with a dessert, but did not spot any desserts on the menu. That might have been an oversight on our part, but nobody asked either if we would like to order anything sweet, or a coffee or a Schnapps. So we ended up asking for the bill which promptly arrived. We had to ask for the sausages to be taken off. Our Waiter seemed be wondered that we did not have them. We paid and left. On they way home we stopped to get some Icecream…. Apologies for minor typos, as this is written...
Read moreI've been to this restaurant three times already. The food quality is consistently good. I'm not from Germany so I can't vouch for how authentically German the food are here. But my German friend rates the food here quite authentic. My German friend also rates highly the German draft beer here.
If you're vegetarian, I would urge you to try the veggie pizza with carmelised onions and cheese on a thin crust. It's a very refreshing change from the usual heavy cheese and meat pizzas that I'm used to.
The restaurant is conveniently located. I used Google maps and just followed the directions on the map. It's about a 5 to 10 minutes walk depending on how fast you walk. I didn't use the written directions because, strangely, the app used the street names in Thai rather than the English. And I couldn't read Thai, which renders it almost useless.
The German managerial staff is very attentive in the restaurant. But the Thai service staff is generally less so. Perhaps the management should pay more attention to staff training. There were many waiters and waitresses there in this relatively small restaurant and they were constantly walking briskly between the tables delivering food or drinks throughout the evening that we were last there. But every time we wanted to order something, it was very difficult to flag down anyone to take our order.
There is a German Delicatessen attached to the restaurant. My German friend tells me that he would buy the German bread from this shop because it closely approximates what he would get...

It is a German restaurant, so expect a great selection of beers, sausages, gravy and more. We were here for a birthday dinner. We literally ordered more than we can chew because we took some leftovers home. We were welcome with bread, which was fresh and yummy. We had a delicious salad mix of different veggies. The Bavarian plate was huge and the pork was cooked at perfection. The gravy was not salty and yummy. The cheese plater was great also. Over all we had a good time for our birthday dinner celebration. For around $150 USD we had more than enough.
