I’m still in shock that I would give a BBQ place, outside of Texas/Tennessee/Kansas, a 5-star rating for BBQ.
Edit: Some other reviewers mentioned that this is a cash only place so be prepared with cash just in case.
But Holy Smokes Sukhumvit 49 in Bangkok really threw me back home with its authentic Southern BBQ experience. I'm talking brisket, ribs, and pork coppa that hit all the right notes. The brisket was smoked perfectly – that deep, rich smoke ring and tender pull-apart texture had me questioning if I had somehow teleported back to a Texas BBQ joint. And the pork coppa? Well marbled, juicy, and full of flavor. I usually stick to traditional cuts, but I’m glad I ventured out. It was melt-in-your-mouth good, with just the right amount of smoky, savory notes.
The atmosphere was another surprise. Walking in, it felt like I was at a backyard BBQ in the South – rustic, relaxed, with a vibe that made me want to crack open a cold one and just chill. It’s not easy to nail the “at-home” BBQ experience in a restaurant, but they pulled it off with ease.
Let me tell you, the sauces were on point. Their Carolina mustard BBQ sauce was tangy without being overwhelming, and the original BBQ sauce struck that perfect balance – not too sweet, no overpowering molasses, just pure BBQ goodness. This is where most places mess it up, but Holy Smokes knew exactly what they were doing.
I’ve got to shout out the coleslaw too. Normally, I avoid coleslaw like the plague, but theirs? Amazing. Creamy, fresh, with just the right crunch – it was the perfect contrast to the rich, smoked meats. Definitely not the throwaway side you find at most places. And their potato wedges were thick and crispy, giving you that hearty bite you want with BBQ.
Now, there’s a small downside – no sliced bread or BBQ baked beans. Yeah, it’s a bit of a miss considering how spot-on everything else was, but honestly, it didn’t detract from the overall experience. At these prices, especially for imported meats, you're getting serious value for some top-tier BBQ.
If you're in Bangkok and craving legit Southern BBQ, this is the place. I never thought I’d find something that feels and tastes this authentic so far from home, but Holy Smokes proved me wrong. This is as close to Texas as you can get without a...
Read moreChanging this rating as i finally visited restaurant in person. limited menu. Strangely, the menu is more limited than on Grab. They only have set menus, with no choices for extra sides or ala carte. Low amount of choice. only CASH or Thai bank transfer is allowed, so no credit card. Inconvenient. staff do not speak any level of English. Now, OF COURSE I understand this is Bangkok, but it’s also a western restaurant, and all the patrons were foreigners when i visited. Most international restaurants speak at least some limited English. It just made the ordering experience very difficult. I ordered beef brisket and hot smoked salmon. Beef portion was reasonable. However the salmon was tiny.

Writing as delivery review. I ordered beef brisket, coleslaw, and potato wedges.
Delivery speed (food prep) I ordered at 3:10pm and food arrived by 3:50pm, with my hotel about 3km away. So the delivery is pretty fast, although it’s of course non peak hour
Packaging Standard, prefer the wedges to be secured by tape as other restaurants do (to prevent pilferage and spilling). Came with 2 tubs of bbq sauce and 1 of mustard, although only indicated 1bbq. Restaurant can consider save money and environment by only including 1 tub in future.
Beef brisket The second opened the tin foil, a strong Smokey delicious smell emerged. The beef was not melt in your mouth, in fact pretty dry and had bite to it. However that is to my taste, and I don’t like greasy cuts. That’s what sauce is for. The amount of meat was decent. Sauce was

Would be nice if the restaurant considered adding a slice of bread as an option to mop up the juices and balance out the salty and...
Read moreMe Andy partner rarely give full score on food but here we are. It’s worth the little trip over!! Disclaimer they didn’t take card payment and it was literally our last meal before heading to the airport so we were out of cash. BUT we managed to order food through grab app and select “pickup” and still eat it.
We had beef brisket slow cooked and it was super soft, tender and amazing. Best we’ve ever had, especially considering the price. Also tried ribs that was even more tender and the bone fell off.
Their sauce Mayonnaise with wasabi was to die for if you like wasabi!!! Had to beg him for another one.
And lastly, the coleslaw was also stirring something up in my core nostalgic memory. Usually I don’t like coleslaw but something with this one. I don’t know, a flavor that made me relive my childhood. I just enjoyed it. :)
So to not hype you up too much, let’s just say, go there and keep an open mind. Enjoy some good meat cheap!
We ordered three main courses amongst two people. (It’s enough to with one? We were greedy) and payed just around 1000 bath.
I hope you have a good time. Ok bye, thx for reading...
