Review: A Culinary Journey at Akira Back, Bangkok
Akira Back at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park offers a truly memorable dining experience, blending Japanese and Korean influences with a modern, international flair. From the moment you step inside, the restaurant's chic and sophisticated ambience sets a high standard. The decor is sleek and stylish, and the lighting is perfectly dimmed to create an intimate yet lively atmosphere. What truly elevates the experience are the stunning views of the city, which provide a beautiful backdrop for the entire meal.
The service was impeccable throughout the evening. The staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring that every part of the meal was a pleasure. They struck the perfect balance between being professional and approachable, which made the experience feel even more special. Now, for a look at the inventive and delicious menu I enjoyed.
Starters and Small Plates The meal began with a refreshing Cucumber salad. It was a simple yet elegant dish, with thinly sliced cucumbers served in a light, slightly sweet dressing. It was the perfect palate cleanser and a great way to start the evening. I also tried the Pork baby back ribs. These were a definite highlight. The ribs were tender and coated in a rich, Korean spicy glaze, topped with sesame seeds and chopped chives. The flavour was a fantastic mix of sweet and savoury with a touch of heat, and the meat simply fell off the bone.
The signature Tuna pizza was a creative and unexpected dish. The base was a thin, crispy crust topped with thinly sliced tuna sashimi, which was a fascinating twist on a classic. It offered a delightful combination of textures—the crispness of the base with the silky-smooth fish—and was a dish that perfectly encapsulated the restaurant's fusion concept.
Main Course For the main course, I ordered a bowl of Kimchi fried rice. This was a comforting and flavourful choice. The rice was well-seasoned with a generous amount of kimchi, providing that signature spicy and tangy kick. It was a satisfying and hearty dish that showcased the Korean influence on the menu.
The Perfect Storm maki roll was a stunning creation, both visually and in terms of flavour. It featured a tempura shrimp at one end, adding a satisfying crunch, while the roll itself was topped with salmon and a savoury sauce. The combination of textures—the soft rice, the crunch of the tempura, and the creamy filling—made for a truly fantastic roll.
Dessert To finish the meal, I had the Honey yogurt panna cotta with coconut ice-cream. This was an artistic and delicious conclusion. It was a beautifully presented dessert in a glass, with the smooth, tangy panna cotta providing a lovely contrast to the sweetness of the fresh berries and the creamy, refreshing coconut ice-cream. The combination of textures and flavours was superb.

Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Akira, a delightful Japanese restaurant located in Bangkok. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a charming ambiance.
I must say, the sushi at Akira is absolutely mouthwatering. Each piece was expertly crafted, showcasing a perfect balance of flavors.
Aside from the sushi, I also had the pleasure of trying their short ribs, they were divine! The meat was so tender and succulent that it practically melted in my mouth. I learned that they slow cook the short ribs for two days, and the result is a dish that's bursting with flavor and incredibly satisfying.
The service at Akira deserves high praise as well. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, always ready to offer recommendations and ensure that I had everything I needed. They truly went above and beyond to make my dining experience memorable.

Read moreWe had a set menu and overall, the food was fresh but the taste was nothing special. The best part was the dessert - that was undoubtedly amazing.
The problem was the management. We booked the dinner in advance for a special occasion and everything was confirmed. Then, on the same day that the dinner was supposed to happen, they called us and told that the a la carte is not available but only the set menu which was priced 3-4 times higher than what we planned to spend and also that they are moving the time of our reservation. They called only 2 hours before the reservation and gave an ultimatum “if you don’t agree, don’t come then”. That definitely ruined the mood but as this was a special occasion and a very late notice, we still agreed. Then, they have given us a very awkwardly placed table next to the pastry chef whereas we requested a table next to the window far in advance. Will not return because of how they managed the reservation and that they forced us to spend more than 300 euros compared to what we planned while the food was...
