Disappointing! Having read the mostly positive reviews for this place, and being a big fan of Thai-Muslim cuisine, I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant. Location is convenient, on a small side street right next to a big hotel. The menu was not great, just not as much variety as I was expecting. Lots of fish and some very normal Thai dishes that you can find anywhere. I was expecting lots of Muslim dishes that I'd never heard of... yellow rice, and lots of curry. Our group ordered a Thai green curry, squid with salted eggs, and an Indian curry. The green curry was too salty – edible, but only just – it was also less sweet than usual. Not great. Far from terrible, but not delicious. It did however come with an excellent fresh roti. The squid dish is a Thai classic. They did it pretty well, quite difficult to fault, but also not the best I've had. Nicer choice of vegetables and a more concentrated sauce would have lifted this dish. Finally I had my hopes set on the Indian curry to save the day... It was ok. The curry flavour was there, but again it was slightly too salty (and you could taste salt... it wasn't just "strongly flavoured"). Again, veg wasn't great... lots of onions, pleasant meat, a few potatoes. But I was hoping for better flavour and a more balanced dish. So not a terrible restaurant, but not quite as good as it could have been. A better menu would help, too. I was hoping there would be a lot of choice of curries, instead it was mostly standard Thai, cooked at a sub-par (for the...
Read moreThis place kept popping up on my search for halal thai food and decided to try it out today evening.
We walked in around 7 pm and we were attended to by Ms. Mariyam who was friendly & polite, albeit a bit reserved.
Based on our doubts & her recommendations we opted for tom kha ghai (coconut milk based chicken soup), thai green curry, stir fry beef with whole green pepper, jasmine rice and the finale was mango sticky rice.
The soup absolutely caused my senses to tingle and burst forth from the galangal, kafir leaves and lemon grass. It was nothing short of transcendental.
The thai green curry too was very flavorful and the gravy went very well with the jasmine rice.
The beef although chewy, was soft and burst in the black sauce and whole green pepper.
We thoroughly enjoyed the food and then poured the slightly salty coconut milk based cream over the sticky rice, and in it went with a piece of mango....the combination of the 3, the glazed finish of the sticky rice, the sweetness of the mango and the rich flavor of the coconut milk based cream was a moment of clarity. It's one of the most beautiful desserts I have had the pleasure of trying, and a mere 120 baht for that experience. The green sticky rice was really something in terms of flavor and something very unique stood out.
The food seems relatively cheap and is most definitely worth the price.
People looking for halal food, this is a great spot close to EmSphere Mall.
A very memorable, or one of the most memorable & most satisfying meals thus...
Read moreLast year on holiday we had great food and it was delicious, so we came back this year. I am currently still sitting in the restaurant, we have waited 50 minutes so far, the 2 tables around us that came after us have all had their food but we still haven’t received ours (it’s just myself and my wife, we ordered 2 rice dishes and a panang curry and oxtail soup). When I called the waitress over she tried to say that the other room was busy and that the dishes we ordered coincidentally took the longest, which is fair enough but that doesn’t explain why the people that came after us, in the same room, all had their food first. There was zero communication between them to say that things might take a little longer etc, I think they forgot about us and are trying to save face. Edit - it has been exactly an hour and we have received all our food. To be fair, the food is tasty but I don’t like having the piss taken and people messing with my time - we can’t go to the other things we were going to do as this whole process took so long. If you want tasty halal food, go to ramkhamhaeng night market - most of the stuff there is halal and MUCH cheaper, or the street outside Darul Amman Mosque, also cheap and delicious. P.S. when we walked in, the restaurant wasn’t packed and the people that were there already had food. Also got a service charge at the end for awful service, got no apology for said service plus this is quite a pricey place for Thailand, you’re honestly better off at the places I...
