WAKI WAKI Vegetarian & Vegan Sushi — Restaurant in Khlong Tan Subdistrict

Devo premettere che abbiamo attraversato mezza Bangkok per poter venire a mangiare in quello che doveva essere un ristorante invece è un take away d'asporto. Bisogna prenotare per potersi sedere perché ci sono solamente due tavoli e mezzo. Il menù sembrava anche interessante e sinceramente non possiamo dire di aver mangiato male ma il servizio era decisamente pessimo. Abbiamo chiesto di poter bere una birra o un calice di vino con il nostro sushi e la risposta, che è stata scocciata, è che loro non servono alcol, quasi a trattarci come se fossimo degli alcolizzati! La ragazza mi ha proposto con fare supponente di bere un estratto di frutta, le ho risposto che quelli li bevo a colazione e che non ho cinque anni, quindi mi sarebbe andata bene dell'acqua! Il mio compagno ha preso del te verde, unica alternativa decente proposta. Da premettere che vietano anche di poter portare bevande esterne quindi benché ci sia un 7/11 esattamente di fronte, scordatevi di potervi portare una birra. Loro scelgono di non tenere la licenza per alcolici ma la fanno pesare sul cliente. La cosa vergognosa è stato che dopo qualche minuto abbiamo visto e sentito le cameriere ridacchiare e prenderci in giro per la battuta che è stata fatta in precedenza, il tutto mentre stavamo mangiando e ci fissavano da dietro la tenda! Quando si sono accorte che le abbiamo beccate hanno tirato la tenda con fare arrogante. Da li in poi, praticamente hanno solo più parlato con il mio compagno che comunque era anche lui molto infastidito, probabilmente perché si sentivano in imbarazzo ma è inaccettabile in un posto dove oltretutto si paga come in Europa, che venga proposta in sala gente così. Alla faccia della terra del sorriso, è cosìche si trattano gli stranieri? È questa l'ospitalità....? Premetto che siamo entrambi Sommelier e abbiamo locali nonché lunghi trascorsi nella ristorazione ed è ridicolo abbinare estratti di frutta al sushi se non espressamente richiesto. Si è vegani o vegariani per scelta, non perché si è malati!!! Ecco come rovinare un'esperienza gastronomica con un servizio scadente ed abbinamenti improponibili. La proposta della cucina sarebbe anche interessante ma se non trovate di meglio in tutta Bangkok, ordinate d'asporto così mangiate rilassati a casa o in hotel e bevete quello che vi pare senza delle ragazzine che vi sghignazzano alle spalle. Sconsigliato per una cena fuori rilassante o romantica, ci sono altre proposte vegetali in zona, andremo altrove.

Primo dovete dichiarare chiaramente sulla scheda del locale che non servite alcol perché in tutta sincerità al cliente non frega nulla delle scelte religiose della proprietà (che comunque umanamente rispettiamo, che sia ben chiaro) ed ha il diritto di decidere in anticipo dove andare a mangiare PRIMA di attraversare la città, sedersi al tavolo e trovarsi la sorpresa di poter pasteggiare con solo succhi di frutta, la nostra voleva essere una cena rilassata e romantica non una festa per bambini. -Secondo ci sono modi e modi di dire le cose. Potevi dirlo subito anziché usare quel tono maleducato e giudicante, avremmo compreso la scelta della proprietà e deciso comunque di restare come in ogni caso abbiamo fatto! Inoltre abbiamo capito quello che dicevate, la storia del "farang" che non capisce è finita da un bel pezzo! Sarebbe il caso di distinguere il turista del fine settima da chi in Thailandia ci gira da 20 anni. Il sorrisetto maligno e l'attitudine con cui ci indicavate era già sufficiente senza neppure dover ascoltare, eravamo davvero a pochi centimetri, la gente non è tutta stupida e dopo anni e anni di ristorazione credo abbiate necessità di imparare come...

This place should be labelled as hidden gem & for a non vegetarian that put vegetarian as the last option if I have no food on earth to eat type, I am actually giving a 5 star rating! Can you believe it?? Yes you better! It is out of expectations for only 2 reasons, 1st is the food presentation, they look better than 5star hotels and importantly the taste is really good.. well, aptly put it is you-never-expect-vege-taste-this-good! So what did we order? Unagi Don - lots of avacado and fat rice.. 😃 Classic gyoza Deep fried tofu in miso soup - I thought the soup is a little salty Avacado tempura - crispy skin on the outside, soft on the inside.. Great combination when you bite it Mushroom Black Hole maki - mushrooms sometimes taste like chicken 🐔 😛 The last 2 items were a bomb 💣.. really out of this world.. and their complimentary soup. Stopped by Waki Waki for dinner on our last night in Bangkok. Unfortunately they were full but allowed us to order takeout. Service was phenomenal! We were waiting outside and it started to rain extremely hard - Im talking torrential downpour and despite being a full night at the restaurant, they pulled out chairs for us and set them up so we could wait for our food inside. Incredible service and kindness there that can't be overstated.

Once we got the food, we headed back to our hotel to eat. Now we get to the good part - I'm a vegetarian sushi snob. I've had vegetarian sushi all over the world, including fancy vegetarian Omakase in Tokyo and I MUST say - THIS is the BEST vegetarian Sushi that I have EVER had. Incredibly delicious. My girlfriend, who eats meat and traditional sushi, said this tastes better than the real sushi that she's had - which would align to some of the other meat eater reviews.

So, if you're considering Waki Waki, or are on the fence, don't hesitate. Dive in, it'll be stupendously delicious!
