I have been to the Blue Elephant in Phuket (twice) and this branch was no where close to that in terms of food, service, ambience, decor and facilities. The Phuket one is beautiful and opulent. This one lacked in all aspects. The seating was pretty much uncomfortable. I had come with great expectations here but the menu was different compared to the Phuket one and very limited options (especially for vegetarians) The food was very mediocre. Lacked the taste, presentation compared to Phuket. The staff was very confused and service was very okay. Though the prices were similar to Phuket I wouldn’t recommend spending that kind of money here because the experience is not worth it. The branch also lacked the little shop where they sell the blue elephant curries, pastes and packed soups. I wouldn’t visit this branch again. However I was informed by the staff that the Sathorn branch has the same menu as the Phuket branch so I would recommend trying that.
Another put off was the amount of mosquitoes that were present. I couldn’t sit through the entire meal without getting up and...
Read moreThe first time I visited. It was after a long day, mostly standing on my feet. Spotted the restaurant and went without a reservation. The service was impeccable and the food was wonderful. Next it was the Blue Elephant in Phuket that served a wonderful meal despite a power outage. So I returned to the Bangkok restaurant recently with high hopes. The server was impatient- I was slow in choosing my options in the Chef’s Special as I was reading the options and preparation methods. “Just choose pork or beef” I was told. Oohhh sorry for wanting a nice plate! The food had seemed to change to cater to tourists. Thai soup which is usually served together with the main meal was served Western style as its own course. The mains was just one big plate ( I recall having it served in a Thai styled raised platter) with the fish overly salty and the lamb mamasan curry overly sweet. The only saving grace was the dessert plate. My spouse had booke a table as he wanted to give me a nice dinner outing. Sadly, I think there are...
Read moreExceptional! We arrived on the wrong day having booked for the next evening. Min met us and informed us that they were fully booked with large corporate events. Sensing our disappointment he quickly arranged that we would eat in a private dinging room upstairs. All aspects of the evening were truly exceptional. We received the most amazing service from Min (despite him attending to the event downstairs) and Puen. We also enjoyed chatting to Dean who had managed the London restaurant.
We ate the Heritage Tasting Menu with wine pairing. The food was exceptional - especially the amuse bouche and starters. Gary - a huge fan - of chicken satay - declared it the very best he had ever tasted.
We have never experienced such quality of service - we felt that we treated like royalty rther thn people who had booked for the wrong night. We were so impressed that we have booked for the Blue Elephant in Sathorn when we return to Bangkok at the end...
