A shopping mall is not the first place that one looks for an experience of exellent international cuisine but Sunrise Tacos Terminal 21 in Bangkok bucks this trend very nicely. Despite being at the centre of the fourth floor, the traditional and bright coloured wooden house asthetic really grabs the eye, while the replica Golden Gate Bridge adjacent to it makes one feel they have slipped south of the border. The wicker chairs meanwhile are comfortable with a lovely two tone of blue and green cushions.
First off the bat was what drink to consume and the selection was very good. For drivers and non-alcohol consumers, they have speciality cinammon milk, a variety of sodas and alcohol free cocktails. For the beer drinker there is Asahi, Sigha, Corona, Tiger and more. But feeling incredibly adventurous, it was to the cocktails menu for the 'Margarita by the yard' or 'Yardarita' as christened by the author of this piece. The margarita was lush, pretty much iced into a slushie with a very refreshing lime citrus body but an incredibly strong alcoholic spine. Do not be deceived, this is no easy drink!
For starter chicken tortilla strips was chosen. This was a delightful set of breaded chicken that was not at all greasy and became ever more morish once coupled with the chipotle sauce that had a really creamy foretaste before a tangy backtaste caused the tongue to cleave to the roof of the mouth.
The decision to stay north of the border for the main course was taken through the all American burger. Cooked medium, this had a really juicy patty that dissolved exceptionally in the mouth, its bed of lettuce and tomato bookended with more chipotle sauce really added a tang that assaulted multiple tastebuds at the same time. The complimentary fries meanwhile came served in their own frying basket and had a crunchy exterior that yielded to very fluffy and soft potato at its core. The combination was truly satisifying.
The final challenge was to try one of the dessert pies that were on offer. Pecan, Pumpkin, cherry and key lime all looked incredibly tempting, but the traditionalist couldn't be swayed from a classic Carrot cake. This was exceptional value, the depth was easily as long as the prongs on a fork and the width matched it. The icing was creamy and sweet without being sickly or cloying, while the main carcass of the course had delicious crunchy walnuts and a fruity spice flavour that dazzled the senses and thrilled the mind.
Without coming close to fine dining prices, the experience was in the same tier. The greeters in their professional white and black uniforms, or the manageress in her traditional Mexican dress really put the cherry on top of the cake with very smiley behaviour and extremely good English that meant an atmosphere of jovial interaction and professional service all at the same time.
Whether you have scoured through all the stores for retail delights or simply come straight for dinner, Sunrise Tacos Terminal 21 is a great place that offers the best of Mexican food and American classics. Highly...

There were two cockroaches by our table. -They were not huge ones but nevertheless they were there. It made me wonder about whether the kitchen is governed by any such health regulations and whether I would find the same pests in the kitchen as well. The owner may complain to say their location is not in their own restaurant premises however precautions should still be taken.
The manner in which the owner replies to reviews. -The manager is actually rude to say the least in the way that he responds to negative reviews. This is google, anyone can say whatever you want. If you are so proud of your restaurant and have faith in it you should not be bothered by negative reviews, nevertheless his responses can be very unprofessional. You run a business you are not a child playing games. You should be polite and respectful as your ways can detriment your business to tourists at times.
The food was nice. -The food wasn't the best that I have ever tried however it was nice. The portions were definitely big enough and filling. This restaurant gives off the feel of a fast food restaurant and however, I am not sure whether that is a good or bad thing but I would not tip the scale in favour of one direction more than the other so I shall just leave my feelings on that as neutral.
The staff were very friendly and understand English fairly well which is great especially for tourists. They were kind and helpful. Let us hope your owners attitude can be reciprocated in the same manner.
I would give this a lower rating due to the cockroaches. I would also give it a higher rating if I did not see the insect. Instead I decided to let the rating lay in the middle.
Awaiting the response...
Read moreI have eaten at this place several times. The fact that I keep coming back says a lot about how much I like it. I also eat often at their sister restaurant with the same menu, Margarita Storm.
At Sunrise Tacos, I know I can always get a really good tasting meal at a fair price. A couple of nights ago, I had their California Chicken Crunch Supreme, a burrito nicely stuffed with crispy fried chicken and lots of other goodies inside. This is the second time I've had this dish and both times it was almost perfect. The reason I say "Almost" is because both times the burrito was not hot and barely warm. This didn't really detract from the flavor but it would have been nicer had it been hot. The burrito appears to have been prepared ahead and reheated but everything was fresh so if it was prepared ahead, it must have been the same day and kept refrigerated. I would happily wait a few more minutes for it to be heated completely. Still, as I mentioned, it was very tasty and I'll order it again.
This night was particularly special for me because I was seated at a table right next to where Jim, the manager, was decorating carrot cakes. She did a nice job on her decorating and it was pleasant to chat with her as she worked. When I had finished my meal, she showed me some of the other cakes she had done. My father had been a real artist with an icing tube and did many wedding and special event cakes for the rich and famous in and around Los Angeles before he retired. I loved to watch him work. Watching Jim brought back lots of pleasant memories.
Her pleasant conversation and friendliness were really what made this visit special for me....
