We have been to Dining in the Dark elsewhere and this was an incredibly poor excuse for it. This was not “fine dining” by any measure. Let me explain:
After twenty minutes of waiting (which actually feels like an hour when you’re in a small, pitch black room and they’re blasting a live unmixed jazz performance from elsewhere in the building [seriously, get a sound guy, you’re the Sheraton]), we received a basket of bread with no butter, no oil/vinegar, nothing. Just dry bread in the dark. Whatever, we didn’t come for bread— the real food is coming, right?
Next, ANOTHER 20 minutes goes by and the appetizer arrives. A single cold bite of hamburger on a spoon! It has taken 40 minutes to receive a cold hamburger on a piece of lettuce— for a dinner we had to reserve in advance and we were the only people there.
Another 20 minutes goes by and I get a soup that is cold. The bowl is hot but the soup is cold. Bizarre, considering the kitchen is literally next door and the amount of time it took to arrive to us.
I ask our waiter, who is a very kind gentleman (and literally the only reason we haven’t left yet), if I could have the soup reheated and for the following course of food to be an appropriate temperature. He takes the soup away and after ANOTHER 20 minutes, I receive it back with a cold entree which is an unappetizing piece of steak (who knows how it’s cooked, I wasn’t asked and I can’t see it), drowned in sauce. At least the soup is hot this time though, right?
Furthermore, the actual physical process of eating the food was very different from other Dining in the Dark experiences where you’re given your dishes in convenient containers. They just gave us a fork and knife, plated some cold food in bird portions (read: “very small”), and then stuck us with a bill that was over 5000thb.
I forgot to mention, we skipped dessert because you can only take so much disappointment in the dark before you just want to leave, which is exactly what we did. Plus, we were still hungry.
We complained to another waitress who told us we weren’t allowed to speak to the manager but assured us that they’d email us. It’s been two days and we’ve received nothing.
There’s so much good food in Bangkok, don’t waste your time (we lasted two hours of this absolute charade before we threw the towel in and walked out before dessert) or money (+5000thb PLUS a service charge— one...

Located within Bangkok's prestigious Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, the experience begins with a gentle briefing before you're guided by visually impaired staff members whose expertise and grace immediately put you at ease. Their warmth and professionalism transform what could feel disorienting into something wonderfully intimate and human.
Without sight to guide you, every bite becomes an adventure of discovery. The carefully crafted menu reveals itself through texture, aroma, and taste in ways that feel almost revelatory. A simple soup becomes a complex symphony of flavors you might never have noticed in the light. The crunch of vegetables, the silkiness of sauces, the temperature contrasts—everything feels heightened and immediate.
The staff's dedication to creating not just a meal but a meaningful experience shines through every interaction. They've mastered the art of guidance without intrusion, allowing the darkness to work its magic while ensuring everyone feels comfortable and cared for.
Dine in the Dark offers more than dinner, it's a gentle reminder of how much we miss when we rely too heavily on sight alone. It's an experience that stays with you long after you step back...
Read moreAn unique dining experience in Bangkok. I highly recommend DID Bangkok to tourists or anyone looking for an unforgettable night out with friends. Reasonably priced menu, great food, and excellent service.
There are however few things I’d recommend DID to change. The waiter working outside the dark room should go through a more intensive English training, as we were unable to understand a word he was saying, which led to countless confusion and misunderstanding. DID also needs a lot more waiting staff at the bar area. After our waiter brought us out, he disappeared and no one came to serve us. We didn’t even get our after meal beverages and had to leave because we were waiting for way too long. Last but not least, they were extremely fixated on us not finishing the soup. We explained 3 times that it’s more common for us to eat the “stuff” in the soup, and not drink the liquid. However, due to language barrier, we felt somewhat uncomfortable when bombarded with interrigatory questions.
Nevertheless, these are all minor problems. That was my 3rd visit to DID Bangkok and I would continue to visit this establishment every time I bring...
