Garnish.Samui — Restaurant in Ko Samui

Braved a downpour on a weeknight to check this place out and so glad we did. You won’t find the overly sweet fruit juice mashups that populate most of the tourist menus around Thailand (although, given how friendly and hospitable the staff were, I’m sure they’d make this for you if you asked). Instead you will find a list of very innovative and sophisticated cocktails that are still very much “of a place”. The bartenders here are utilizing a lot of the same techniques, styles, and classic inspirations as many of the top cocktail bars around the world, but still finding ways to incorporate local ingredients or flavor profiles. The result is some very unique offerings. We had several rounds and while some stuck out as favorites, everything we tasted was interesting and well balanced.

If you appreciate craft cocktails and want something more than the typical “vacation drinks”, this place is worth going out of your way for. I personally think it could hold its own against some of the top cocktail bars around the world (a handful of which we have been lucky enough to visit over the years).

And all that is before we even get into the service and vibes. As mentioned above, we were there on a slow night due to a heavy downpour (was also told elsewhere it was the area’s slow season), yet still had an amazing time listening to some great tunes and chatting with Pok for the better part of an hour. He is an extremely friendly dude who can really geek out over spirits and cocktails (the heavy duty lab equipment behind the bar is a dead giveaway). His enthusiasm is contagious!

All-in-all this place had such a great vibe despite the quiet night, rain, and pitch black outside. I can only imagine how awesome it is with a full house, sunset views over the water, and DJ setting the vibe.

Drinks are super good and experimental! Loved how each drink is infused with something local, ask the bartenders to recommend you something based on your preferences. Each drink that my party had was spot on, we came back twice!!

Really really loved the concept. Atmosphere of the bar was beautiful too, the whole interior is design after a fishing crawler. Bar station is also quite unique in that it’s a two-sided station, instead of bartenders on one side and customers on the other, it’s more flowy and free-form.

Salted egg knock, fruit ant fish, snake fruit sgroppinin and miami vice were standouts for me!

Drinks are pricer compared to neighbors at 390-420, but honestly for the aircon, beautiful interior, top notch service and fabulous local experimental drinks, it’s so worth it!! Will definitely be back and cant recommend it highly enough.
