‘CAFE DE PIER’ Amy found the one to be our favorite brunch place in Samui. The ‘Cafe de Pier’ is located right next to the tourist photo boat at the end of alley which takes only about 5-10 minutes on foot from the main entrance of the fisherman’s village. The fisherman’s village itself seemed to have lots of restaurants, cafes and shops for massage, tattoo, clothings, souvenirs but not much opened in this period but the ‘Cafe de Pier’ was the one opened among few. (FYI, most of F&B business down here are temporarily closed or just allowing take away nowadays) It was really easy to find this place as you will see the wrecked pier standing right in front your eyes overlooking the Bophut beach and the sea. As the name of this place representing this long-standing pier, ‘Cafe de Pier’ itself was mingling with its antique interiors. It looked old and even some of them are damaged but strangely suited while showing its rustic style. Strawberry booster 160B+ Mango Energy 160B+ Fruity French Toast 210B+ Egg Benedict 220B+ Frankly speaking, they carry lots of food selections of Thai food, western food and some snacks but either taste nor plating was not amazing but could not complain anything when we were totally spacing out on it’s tranquil but outstanding vista. Their beverage menu seemed that they put some efforts on and I really wanted to try some of its signature cocktails but wasn’t allowed in this period;( Definitely, I have to bring Amy here again to try some at sunset timing though. Read moreAlright, let's tackle Rice X De Pier Restaurant, snuggled right in Fisherman's Village's heart. Location? Top-notch. With that beach view, it's as if Mother Nature herself reserved the best table for you.
The menu? Bursting at the seams with options, both food and wine. You ever think about the importance of that perfect wine-food pairing? It's like a solid relationship: the wrong match and, well... someone's getting ghosted.
The appetizer, a carpaccio of local fish, was like reading a decent book with a few unnecessary chapters. A little less dressing, fewer onions, and the tale of this fish would have been a bestseller.
The main event? "Prawn & Lamb". A pairing as surprising as discovering your quiet neighbour is an undercover spy. Served on mashed potatoes, but risotto would've given it a better narrative. But then again, I'm here to eat, not to advise a chef on their life choices.
However, a shadow did cast over the evening. Enter a flock of French folks. Their arrogance? Almost palpable, like they carried the weight of every French king's ego with them. Ever heard the saying, "Too many cooks spoil the broth"? Well, too many French in a Thai restaurant apparently stage a mini-revolution. My advice to Rice X De Pier? Big groups on reservation, preferably with a personality test beforehand. As for our French comrades? A bit of humility won't hurt; after all, history shows it can save a head or two.
In summary: Rice X De Pier? A delight. Just watch out for any guillotines when large groups walk...

Location: Fisherman’s Village
Visit: Breakfast
Service: The service was good. The staff were attentive and courteous.
Food: The food was tasty, and I enjoyed my meal. This was my second visit, and both times the food has been satisfactory.
Experience: I wanted to order the homemade pancakes, so I inquired about the ingredients. Unfortunately, my server did not understand my question, so I used a translator app. A few moments later, the server returned with a store-bought package, which was presented as homemade pancakes. This was disappointing and led me to decide not to order them.
Communication: Clear communication is crucial when visiting a restaurant. If a menu item is labeled as homemade, I expect it to be genuinely homemade. Misleading descriptions can affect the dining experience and customer satisfaction.
Conclusion: While the food I ordered was fine, the misunderstanding regarding the pancakes left a negative impression. This was my second visit to Rice X De Pier, and while I have enjoyed the food, I may consider trying a different restaurant next time to explore other options.
By the way, the view is lovely, and I would’ve gave it five stars for the atmosphere, except construction is still going on up above the establishment. Which can impact the...
