Bad and slow service when not even full. Overly priced. Very rude lady at the counter almost screaming. I’m not a tourist and this is not how the behaviour is around here. Waiting for over an hour for basic stuff (like fish and chips). We ordered squid and they brought us calamari without even telling us. Tried to sell it as being part of the same fish..looked not really appetising. They also charged the squid price which was 130 bhat more expensive. They brought food for one person while the others waited for another half hour. Eat somewhere else or at another beach. Ratings are good from all the drunk people probably. Reply for restaurant: Thanks for your reply. Ideally this would’ve been explained before ordering not after leaving a review. Nobody demanded (please refrain from using such big words) to pay less - we asked, as when we contested the food one of your staff did point to the calamari (also on the menu and at a cheaper price) so we assumed since it’s your mistake you will have to pay for it not the customer. But we got a loud response in return from your staff. The passive aggressiveness in the restaurant’s reply should be again an example of the attitude you’ll be greeted with.

Incredibly surprised that the first restaurant on the beach has REALLY good Thai food. They have both this front location and a second smaller restaurant a couple units in on the right where we first ate (they’re all wearing the same shirts). Green curry was best we’d had in Thailand, good flavour, good spice level, lots of Thai aubergines (I’m sure you can ask for less spicy if you want, we asked for Thai spicy). Som Tam (papaya salad) with grilled chicken and sticky rice, soup noodles, and the Lad Na was also great. (Personally really recommend the Lad Na, lots of crunchy veg in a well seasoned thick “gravy” with thick gloopy fried noodles — hard to explain but it’s delicious here; it’s not spicy, you add your own chilli flakes to taste). At the beach-front location they also let out beach mats if you’re having a take out drink. So good we went twice, can’t recommend enough!

Great atmosphere right on the beach before your boat back to Ao Nang. Fabulous music and ambiance but misleading to get you into the place. Happy hour just means you get a drink at 150bht. It is not you get one free with most other places that offer happy hour. This was what I thought I was getting but not so the owners were quite adamant that this is not what is going on and even brought over the sign saying happy hour 150 bht and they insisted it was my misinterpretation. I have no idea what happy hour means here so I will vote with my feet and avoid. It’s a shame as Ao nang and Railay are my second home. The food was ok small tempura prawns and a small plate of glass noodles.

I had a very bad experience at this restaurant!!!

When it started to rain, the staff chased a dog away by clapping and making aggressive movements. I felt sad for the dog. The waitress saw me and started laughing at me. She did not stop, even when I asked her what was so funny. Then she laughed together with her colleague at the bar, talking about me, both looking at me and making fun of me. I told her many times that this was rude and unacceptable, but she continued to laugh. I wanted to order food, but I couldn’t because she didn’t take me seriously. Finally, I stood up and said I didn’t want to order anymore. In the moment I wanted to leave another waitress explained that they asked the dog to leave because Muslim guests were sitting at a table. I respect other cultures, but that was not the problem. The problem is that the staff laughed at me and treated me without respect, even when I just wanted to order something to eat. This was very unfriendly and unprofessional.. but well, if they prefer to give up money rather than treat tourists properly, that’s their choice.. I absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant because of the staff!!

• I am adding this comment in response to the restaurant’s reply to my original review: Thank you for your reply. I want to make it very clear: this was not about the dog’s “playful behavior.” The dog was scared, crouched, and had already left by the time your staff were laughing. It was completely obvious that the waitress and the man at the bar were talking and laughing at me because I showed compassion for the dog. It is unacceptable for a guest to be mocked and not taken seriously. Even when I asked the waitress to stop and told her it was disrespectful, she continued laughing. This was unprofessional and rude. Your response should not try to justify what happened. Instead, you should apologize. My experience was not about the dog, but about being treated with disrespect by your staff. I hope you take this seriously and ensure that no other guests are treated this way...

We were about to leave Railay but decided to stop here because of the nice restaurant location, which is overlooking the beach. I wish we had just gone literally anywhere else because this was a pretty negative way to end the day. I don't normally leave reviews but this whole interaction bothered me quite a bit. The owner/manager clearly knows that the customers will keep coming due to the location so good service and quality food aren't a priority. From what we saw, bad service and below average food are the standard here.

First of all, the waitresses are gathered around the host stand chatting and snacking so it is quite hard to get their attention. They never check back on tables after dropping off food which is why, 20 minutes after bringing my husband's food, I had to approach them to ask how much longer my food would take. They apparently didn't realize I had also ordered what he did. A small miscommunication isn't a big deal but once I asked, they were still dismissive. It took another 20+ minutes to get my food. There was no apology and, as usually happens, no offer of anything as a consolation. At the end of it all, 1000 baht for two beers, a smoothie, a soda water, and two fish and chips dishes (which were a JOKE, by the way. Flat, cardboard fish and fries from the freezer). Such a waste. The woman taking payment at the host stand clearly thought speaking to me about this was a waste of time so instead, I've had to resort to leaving a review.

Hopefully the next time they spend their hard-earned money at a restaurant while on a brief holiday, they are treated with just a bit more common decency.

So if you're visiting Railay, give another restaurant your business - they deserve...
