If this review was just for the food, it would undoubtedly be 5 stars. Factoring service and atmosphere? 2 stars.
Let me break it down for you
Now for the not so great part.
The service Very bad. Paying 11,000 baht for one meal should in turn come with exceptional service. It took over 25 minutes after ordering to be acknowledged by the servers after asking about the whereabouts of our order multiple times. The staff were very unapologetic, only saying it’s due to the large table behind us (around 12-14 people, while we were a party of 7). The calamari took 30 minutes to arrive. Another table of 2 ordered after us, and received their appetizers before us as well. Even the cheesecake factory apologizes for being late and either comps an order or gives you dessert. We didn’t get an apology, just an “the other table ordered alot.” So we pay? Reservations are all at specific times, and all fully booked. The kitchen should be prepared to handle orders even with large parties
The atmosphere The site of the restaurant is phenomenal, but with an ocean setting i’d expect more on-theme music. The music played was arab pop, which is not at all matched to the menu and site. If you’d like to please your arab visitors, i’d suggest more lowkey music, such as Fairouz, Om Kulthoom, Talal Maddah The air conditioning is good, very appreciative of the fans between each table
TLDR? Food is phenomenal, and probably the best meal we had in phuket hands down. However, service tarnished the experience and is the main reason why I would not visit again. You’ll enjoy your meal at the risk of a hefty wait, so leave tired kiddos at home (with a responsible adult ;))) )
edit response: Thank you for your very detailed response, I understand the matter now, however it was not made clear to us during the visit. When we inquired with our waitress on why the starters took so long, the only response was that it was due to another table having a large amount of orders, which is why it left somewhat of a bad...
Read moreBeautifully located to watch the sun go down while eating. We didn’t have reservations and I don’t know if they’re necessary but this is a very popular spot. We barely waited five minutes before we were seated. The tables are arranged so that no matter where you are seated, you will be able to see the sunset. After you finish admiring and gwaking over how beautiful the location is,the menu has many seafood options along with beef, pork and lamb. I ordered the beef hanger steak along with an additional side of mashed potatoes. For dessert, I ordered the brownie with ice cream. While we were waiting for our order to arrive, both my daughter and I were admiring other customers orders. They were presented beautifully. Once our meal arrived, everything was delicious. I was expecting the brownie portion to be cold and hard. It was nothing of the sort. It was warm and soft and the entire dessert looked like art. Presentation of a dish indicates the care and pride taken in preparation. While I was imbibing on a lovely cocktail, the restaurant had a live saxophonist playing and he played the soft rhythm and blues that made the dinner even lovelier. I didn’t know live music was included. I’ve dined at high end restaurants as well as fast food locations. I was not expecting the exquisite level of dining I experienced tonight. On our walk home, I kept telling my daughter that she picked a good restaurant this time. We’ve had a few failures recently. Lastly, the staff are consummate professionals. My daughter has worked in the service industry and complemented how fast they turned over tables to prepare for the next customer. Once a patron had finished their meal, they ( multiple staff, not just one busser) swooped in like emergency management and had the floor and table ready to go in under five minutes. EVERYONE jumped in to get it done. I also observed this while they were serving tables. EVERYONE helped. This was truly teamwork. They are well organized and they were so good that they didn’t distract diners from the meal,Impressive. If I ever visit Phuket again, this restaurant will be at the top of...
Read moreOur visit to Meg Khram, the Sunshine & Submarine, was nothing short of a gastronomic adventure. This hidden gem not only wowed us with its breathtaking seaside views but also left us speechless with the culinary wonders it had to offer. We savored the grilled seabass, indulged in mud crab with garlic and pepper, and devoured deep-fried tiger prawns with tamarind sauce, creating an unforgettable dining experience.
The grilled seabass was a true delight for seafood lovers. Fresh, tender, and perfectly cooked, it embodied the flavors of the sea. The subtle smokiness from the grill added a unique dimension to the dish, making it a true masterpiece.
The mud crab with garlic and pepper was a flavor explosion. The crab was incredibly succulent, and the garlic and pepper seasoning gave it a zesty kick that left us craving more. This dish was an exquisite balance of flavors and textures, making it an instant favorite.
The deep-fried tiger prawns with tamarind sauce were a revelation. The prawns were perfectly crispy on the outside, while the tamarind sauce provided a delightful sweet and tangy contrast. It was a dish that showcased the culinary expertise of the chef.
What made our dining experience even more memorable was the tranquil seaside setting. We were treated to panoramic views of the ocean, creating the perfect backdrop for our meal. The sound of the waves added to the ambiance, making this a truly immersive experience.
