Disappointing Experience at a Two-Star Michelin Restaurant
We had high expectations for Day & Night in Koh Samui, but our experience was nothing short of disappointing.
Our first visit on February 4th at 2 PM was a waste of time—despite having a reservation, most of the signature dishes were unavailable. With no manager on-site, the assistant assured us that the full menu would be available if we returned, so we booked dinner for February 6th at 8 PM.
This time, we were seated on the rooftop and assured that all dishes were available. We started with still water, squid ink calamari (which was mostly tasteless dough with artificial coloring), a watery truffle soup, and a very average mussel white wine bowl—not what you’d expect from a Michelin-starred establishment. Lastly, we ordered a signature stuffed beef dish, which we eventually had to cancel.
The waitress informed us that this dish would take 15-20 minutes, which was fine, but after receiving all other items within 10 minutes, we waited an additional 50 minutes for the last dish. Frustrated, I asked to cancel it and requested the bill. A different waitress (Nikki) then came with the dish, insisting it had only been 15 minutes—essentially calling me a liar. When I requested to speak to the manager, she suddenly claimed she was the manager and refused to cancel the dish. After I stood my ground, she finally removed it from the bill but not before rolling her eyes and giving us attitude.
Before leaving, I asked the receptionist if I could speak to someone in charge. As she was explaining that the manager was off that night, the same waitress (Nikki) approached and admitted she was only the assistant manager—not the manager as she initially claimed. I confronted her about lying and her unprofessional behavior, to which she simply responded, “Do what you want,” with no apology.
This was an incredibly disappointing experience—poor service, mediocre food, and staff with a serious attitude problem. If you’re expecting a true Michelin-starred experience, Day & Night will...

Rating:
• Food: 5/5 (Delicious bingsu, brownie ice cream, and excellent overall menu) • Ambiance: 5/5 (Stylish, unique, and cozy atmosphere) • Service: 5/5 (Friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond)
Overall: 5/5
Donkey and I, along with a group of friends, decided to head to Day & Night of Koh Samui for a sweet treat and a few drinks after enjoying a lovely dinner at Big Horn. We were drawn to their bingsu because of the Michelin star they earned in 2024, and their menu mentioned it was a best seller.
We ordered two of their signature bingsu, which are like Korean shaved ice desserts. We tried the salted egg yolk bingsu, which had a unique and delicious flavor. The salted egg yolk topping was rich and creamy. We also had the mango bingsu. The mango topping was sweet and juicy, and the ice was so light and fluffy.
We also had the brownie ice cream with melted molten lava, and it was simply delicious.
We learned from Google that the view from the rooftop was incredible, but unfortunately, it was raining heavily the whole time we were in Koh Samui, so we didn't manage to go up to the rooftop to enjoy the 360-degree panorama view. The atmosphere was really cool and stylish, and the staff were friendly and attentive.
We were so impressed that Day & Night has won a Michelin star for 2024, and it's easy to see why. The food, the view, and the atmosphere were all amazing. We also loved the restaurant's decor and ambiance—each floor had a unique and cozy feel.
We even had a bit of a mishap when we were leaving as we were short one umbrella from the hotel. Someone mistakenly took ours when they left the restaurant. The restaurant was kind enough to contact the hotel and pay for the replacement umbrella, which was really thoughtful and showed excellent customer service.
Overall, Donkey and I had a positive dining experience at Day & Night, and we highly recommend a visit if you're looking for a special dining experience...
Read moreDon't be fooled by their appearance on the Michelin guide -- I had one of the worst dining experiences of my life here. My friends and I arrived to a nearly empty restaurant a few nights ago for dinner.
The fact that they gave us no less than FIVE different menus to order from should have been a red flag. Jack of all trades, master of none. We were all craving different things so we ordered a range of items: a ribeye, pasta, Thai, a pizza, some wine, some cocktails, etc.
First of all, they tried to caution us against ordering the ribeye because it would take 30-45 min to arrive. It ended up arriving first in about 10 min. We asked for it medium-rare and got it well done. The pasta was disgusting -- unseasoned, overcooked, with clams that tasted like they'd been sitting around in the sun for days. They brought out the wrong pizza at first, and when the correct one finally arrived it was soggy and falling apart in the center.
The only redeeming dishes were the stir fried broccoli and the coffee we ordered at the end (which took about 20 min to arrive, despite us asking about it multiple times).
When we received the bill we were charged twice for the pizza and full price for the pasta, even though we sent it back without eating it and confirmed with the server originally that we wouldn't have to pay for it. When we inquired about the item on the bill, we were told that they were unfortunately unable to take it off.
At that point we were just desperate to leave and get on with our night, so we didn't complain. But I would STRONGLY recommend not coming here while you're in Ko Samui. If you want an upscale dining experience in that part of Chaweng go to Chom Chaka across the street -- much better food and drinks, with lovely,...
