A True Hidden Gem in Istanbul – Unique Flavors You Can’t Find Anywhere Else

If you’re looking to explore something beyond the usual restaurant scene in Istanbul, Abyssinia Restaurant is an exceptional choice. This place offers a culinary experience unlike anything else in the city. Specializing in authentic Ethiopian and East African cuisine, Abyssinia brings bold, rich, and memorable flavors that are both comforting and exciting.

What sets Abyssinia apart is not only the uniqueness of the food but also the variety they offer. Whether you’re vegetarian, gluten-free, or someone who loves spicy dishes, there’s something here for every taste. The injera (a traditional fermented flatbread) paired with beautifully spiced stews and vegetables is an experience you won’t easily forget. Many of these dishes are hard to find elsewhere in Istanbul, making Abyssinia truly special.

The ambiance is cozy and filled with cultural touches that reflect the soul of Ethiopia. The staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always happy to explain the dishes, which makes the experience even more meaningful—especially if it’s your first time trying East African food.

In a city filled with restaurants, Abyssinia stands out for offering something rare, delicious, and deeply rooted in tradition. It’s not just a meal—it’s a journey into another culture, served with love and authenticity.

Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys discovering new tastes and cuisines....

If you’re looking for an authentic Ethiopian dining experience in Istanbul, Abisssinya Restaurant is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, the warm hospitality and inviting atmosphere make you feel right at home.

The food is simply outstanding—each dish is bursting with rich, traditional flavors. The injera is perfectly soft and tangy, complementing the beautifully spiced stews like doro wat, siga tibs, and shiro. The portions are generous, and the presentation is just as impressive as the taste.

What truly sets Abisssinya apart is the attention to detail and authenticity. The coffee ceremony is a must-try—freshly roasted Ethiopian coffee served in the traditional way, creating a truly immersive experience.

Whether you’re familiar with Ethiopian cuisine or trying it for the first time, this restaurant offers an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend for anyone in Istanbul looking for delicious food, a welcoming ambiance, and a taste...

Amazing place, I would highly suggest that you visit this restaurant! To get there you need to enter the building from the narrow door that looks like a normal residental staircase and has the posters and signs of the restaurant. Then climb to the second floor to enter. Do not be afraid!!! The inside of the restaurant is peaceful, clean and very welcoming! The staff thoroughly helped and guided us since this was our first time eating food from the Abyssinian region. The food was delicious and very affordable even in these difficult times. There was a mother in the kitchen preparing the food which is of course the best thing you could wish for! I would definitely come again and taste more food if i could. This restaurant is a great option in this area which is dominated by the same touristy meat-fish restaurants. Again, i would really recommend that you check...

If you’re looking for an authentic Ethiopian dining experience in Istanbul this place is a must visit From the moment you walk in, the warm aroma fills the air. The menu offers an impressive selection of authentic Ethiopian dishes, rich and flavorful the staff is friendly and welcoming The restaurant boasts a beautiful traditional Ethiopian décor, with woven mesobs (traditional dining baskets) and Ethiopian artwork adorning the walls. The atmosphere is both cozy and vibrant, making it perfect for a family dinner, a romantic date, or even a gathering with friends. Traditional Ethiopian music plays softly in the background, adding to the cultural experience without being overwhelming. Overall it was a great place to feel at home

My friend and I make a habit of trying habesha (Eritrean/Ethiopian) food in other countries, and Abyssinia did not disappoint. The decor made you feel like you were transported to Ethiopia and ambience of the restaurant is so warm. The owners were so sweet. We ordered beyaynetu and quanta fir fir. I love getting beyaynetu because you get to try a little of everything- the shiro and beets were so delicious!! I asked for mitmita which is an Ethiopian spice that you can sprinkle to add a kick to your food. Adding that to the quanta firfir? Chefs kiss! Definitely recommend trying this spot out.
