Chef Yusuf by Faruk — Restaurant in Fatih

I’m writing my first review about being scammed at restaurant, first day in Istanbul, and unfortunately, it’s for this place. No wonder the restaurant was completely empty—literally no one else was there except us. That should have been the first red flag.

We were pressured into sampling the meat without even being offered a menu. The staff didn’t clarify the prices, and when the bill came, it was a shocking LTR 2500 ($70)! We expected food to be much cheaper than this, especially in Turkey.

A bunch of dips were brought to the table, which we didn’t even ask for or touch. The food itself was mediocre, with a gamy flavor that wasn’t enjoyable at all.

When entering the restaurant the host said we had to see the meat at counter before ordering. We were asked either Lamb or beef. We chose Lamb. With this a foil of meat was opened and we were given a sample. At which point no menu had been offered or prices shared. We agreed the meat. It was served promptly with rice and dips. These were absolutely nothing special and would not of ordered anyway. Then came the bill!!!! TL1999 including 2 beers which were over twice the price from over the road!!! We had a fantastic dining experience at Chef Yusuf Restaurant today. From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere made us feel right at home.
