I recently dined at this restaurant, and unfortunately, my experience was tainted by an encounter with a deeply ignorant and disrespectful server. From the moment I sat down, he repeatedly made offensive and stereotypical comments toward me simply because I’m Asian. He kept asking, “Do you know how to do kung fu?” while making exaggerated and inappropriate gestures. I calmly explained that being Asian doesn’t automatically make me a martial arts expert, but instead of stopping, he continued, even saying “konichiwa” despite me not being Japanese.
Things escalated further when I went to pay. He tried to say “xie xie,” which is “thank you” in Chinese, showing a complete disregard for the fact that I’m not Chinese. This wasn’t just casual ignorance—it was deeply rooted racism, disguised as humor.
I couldn’t help but think: if he traveled to another country and someone said, “Hey, cook me some kebab” or “How many wives do you have?” in reference to his Turkish background, how would he react? Would he realize how racist and offensive those remarks are? I highly doubt it.
To the management: I hope you take this as a learning opportunity to train your staff on cultural sensitivity and respect. No one should have to tolerate such offensive behavior in a...
Read moreThe restaurant deserves five stars. This is to describe briefly. Everything about this restaurant was great, from the friendly and helpful staff to the food. When my wife and I entered the establishment, the waiters talked to the guests as if they were welcoming visitors to their home and at the end saw them off as best friends. We were touched by such service. All employees with whom we had the opportunity to speak spoke English well, which facilitated our communication and mutual understanding. The food ordered matched the photos on the menu, but the portion on the plate turned out to be larger than expected, which was very nice. Everything tasted great, and the waiting time for the dishes was very quick. And even the owner himself goes out to the guests, asking if everything was good. Which emphasizes his soulful concern for the restaurant. We would like all restaurants to meet such standards as "Rainbow fish & meat restaurant". We chose this restaurant based on online reviews and the number of ratings. You rarely see such a high rating with so many ratings. This restaurant will remain in our hearts for the rest of our lives, because the taste of food can be forgotten, and the pleasant emotions associated with food are...
Read moreThis restaurant was around the corner from our hotel in the Sultan Ahmet district, and after reading reviews we decided to give it a shot! We both ate the whole grilled sea bream which was perfectly cooked with crispy skin, and with the garnish this dish went great with my glass of raki! For dessert we ordered a chocolate soufflé (which was in fact a lava cake) and it was delicious. I originally wanted to order rice pudding but our waiter convinced me to try the katmer- not as an upsell as the prices are similar but out of passion for the food. I was not disappointed! It turns out katmer is a little like crepes, soft with crispy edges and filled with pistachio. He even took my cutlery and showed me the proper way to eat it which is to roll a little ice cream into each piece.
Needless to say the service was outstanding- charming and friendly, attentive but not overbearing, and we didn’t feel hard-sold into anything as is often the case in Istanbul. The staff clearly love the food and what they do, and they do it well.
If you’re looking for a great, reasonably priced meal in the area away from the tourist traps then I cannot recommend...
