During our recent visit to a shop, we were absolutely blown away by what we encountered. Our initial reaction was a resounding “WOW,” quickly followed by an even more enthusiastic “wooow.” The experience was so incredible that words fail to capture our third reaction adequately.
We were warmly welcomed and treated to their signature offering, a delightful and unparalleled Turkish tea. It was hands down the best tea we’ve ever had in Turkey, leaving an indelible impression on our taste buds.
Not only did the shop provide us with exceptional hospitality, but they also took the time to give us a comprehensive tour. Every nook and cranny revealed a treasure trove of items for sale. We were captivated by their stunning ceramic pieces and clay artifacts, unlike anything we had ever seen before. One particular highlight was their collection of mesmerizing artworks that illuminated the darkness, truly a sight to behold.
The staff took great pride in sharing the inspiring story of the talented artist behind these creations, offering us a glimpse into the passion and craftsmanship that went into each piece.
While the prices of the exquisite items exceeded our budget on this occasion, we left with a firm resolve to return and adorn our home with something truly special from their store. The experience was unforgettable, and we eagerly anticipate our next visit, where we will undoubtedly find the perfect piece to embellish our...
Read moreThe first time I passed this shop, I got talking with the vender. In Istanbul, every vender (restaurants / shops) starts talking to you, so normally I pass with a smile and a nod. The vender was indeed very friendly, but not in a pushy way. And he knew a lot about the ceramics, the art work, its history and the artists who make the ceramics. After talking, I got a little bowl as a present, even though I didn't buy anything. On the last day of my holiday, I went back there, I wanted to buy some more of the little bowls (but then bigger). I had seen these bowls all over the city, but I liked this shop, so I went to them. However, they didn't have these bowls. For them, these little bowls are little presents for the tourists and in the shop, you can find the real artwork. Not the tourist stuff, but proper handmade artwork. In the corner of the shop, the artist was working on the turntable.
The collection is very authentic, beautiful and diverse. The sellers are very nice, helpful and authentic as well. Next to that, they know a lot about the ceramics.
If you are tired of all the venders in the touristic streets, I would recommend this 'little oasis of quietness'. It is just behind...
Read moreA Little Gem in Istanbul for Buying Very Fine Turkish Ceramics I strongly recommend the Tree of Life (formerly known as Magnaura Palce) and his owner Umit for anyone interested in buying very fine ceramics in Istanbul at a decent price. The shop is located not far away from the Blue Mosque, making it easier to visit it !
Umit has a very large choice of beautiful pieces, is extremely kind and friendly. He makes you feel comfortable when you are looking for ceramics and give you very good advice. Also, he provides international shipping with insurance, making it easier to bring large pieces back home !!
Another thing that I truly appreciated is that he doesn't bargain: he gave you a very decent price, you can negotiate a little bit at the margin but nothing crazy like in the Grand Bazaar where you spent hours in useless bargaining for at the end overpaying poor quality things. On the contrary, the Tree of life has top quality items coming from different artists in Turkey, who Umit knows personally.
I bought a beautiful set of ceramics, three pieces, and I plan to buy new things once I come back to Istanbul !!
Very nice person and shop, definitely...
