Like many others food spots in Goreme, Dibek is centrally located. This means they get a steady flow of tourists. All day. Every day. This also means they can get away with not caring about YOU. And that's exactly what they will do.
When we entered, no one bothered to greet us or escort us to our table. A waitress who was seemingly preoccupied with more important affairs simply motioned to an empty corner for us to have a seat.
A few minutes later, she returned to us with one simple word, "Ready?" Not, "Do you have any questions about the menu?" Not, "Would you like to start with something to drink." Just, "Ready."
And we were ready. Ready to leave, that is, was it not for our pounding hunger keeping us glued to the dusty cushions in the dark corner.
We cautiously ordered a few dishes.
When meze platter arrived, the message was clear - we don't care about you. Just eat and get out. No garnish on the hummus. No effort in making the food just a little presentable. Straight up Blah.
Then I asked for a Turkish tea. "Sure, we have it." The price - 20 TYR, the highest I've seem in Turkey so far. The owner of Dibek must be curious how the restaurant at Sultan's Cave can sell the same Turkish tea for 5 TYR and still offer 5-star service. Mystery!
I read the reviews in depth this morning. Many start with some sort of claim "Warning, tastiest......you will eat." Seems a bit suspicious how unrelated tourists are coming up with the same exact phrasing. Unless, of course, these reviews are just padded.
And one final note that demonstrates the utter lack of caring, whenever someone leaves a negative review here, the owner gives them a thumbs down! Ha.
Fellow travelers - have some respect for yourselves and eat elsewhere.
Dibek - wake up! We tourists are not some dumb sheep, passing through your rotating doors of mediocrity. All we ask for is simple, lovingly-prepared food, served...
Read moreThe place is very nice, very traditional. The service is friendly and correct. Prices are on the very high side. 30 euro for a 35 cl bottle of standard Raki is a lot. Meal prices are much much higher than in other places. That wouldn't be a problem, if the food quality is accordingly high. But it's not. We took the menu, at 40 euro! The portions are rather small, but ok for 2 people (but 20 euro per person is a lot, even for Göreme). Some dishes were cold (probably due to the small quantity, they cold down rapidly). Taste was ok, nothing special. The soup was tasty, very flavourful. We don't mind paying a higher price, but only if the quality comes with it. And unfortunately, it didn't surpass other restaurants. 100 euro for 2 kids and 2 adults. Value for money is poor.
Answer to owner's comment: I can still order something despite considering it expensive, no? A good Raki in another excellent Restaurant 5 minutes away was 290 TL, in your place it was 550 TL (same quantity). I'm just stating a fact, that it was expensive. Fortunately, I am able to afford the cost and I wanted Raki. Doesn't change the fact that the price was high.
And I will not let high prices ruin my evening with my family. If I'm not fully satisfied with my dining experience, why be in a bad mood and destroy my whole evening? After all, I rated the atmosphere 5 stars. But you wouldn't look at this...?! I gave some positive comments, but you only focus on the negative.
Your answer shows lack of empathy and poor understanding of hospitality. Rather than taking feedback and trying to improve, you attack your customers. I hope other potential clients learn from your answer. I followed a recommendation and didn't check Google reviews, too bad for me. Maybe others...
