One often approaches a cafe nestled within a major shopping complex with a degree of caution, perhaps expecting little more than a conveyor belt of serviceable coffees and perfunctory pastries. However, Aspen Cafe, located within the rather grand Kempinski at the Mall of the Emirates, is not 'one of those places'.
This is a sophisticated, 24-hour operation that feels less like a mall pit stop and more like a proper, well-heeled European grand cafe, transplanted into the heart of Dubai. The ambiance is one of calm elegance – a welcome respite from the delightful, yet undeniably bustling, retail therapy happening just outside its doors. The service, as you'd expect from a Kempinski establishment, is impeccable; attentive without being overbearing, and genuinely knowledgeable about the menu. They've recently rolled out a new summer menu, and if our recent foray is anything to go by, it's an absolute triumph. This is a place that truly upholds its five-star standards, around the clock, which is a frankly impressive feat.
Now, onto the main event – the sustenance. We embarked on a culinary journey starting with the Smoked Tomato Soup. Let me tell you, this was no ordinary bowl of blended tomatoes. It had a depth of flavour, a subtle smokiness that was entirely unexpected and utterly delicious. I’d happily return just for another serving of this revelation. The Quinoa and Avocado salad was a vibrant affair, genuinely bursting with fresh, clean flavours – a perfect antidote to, say, a morning spent grappling with shopping bags. Then came the Lobster Roll, a generous, overflowing creation packed with sweet, succulent lobster meat nestled in a soft, yielding brioche. This wasn't a stingy scattering; this was a proper celebration of lobster. The Truffle Risotto was everything a good risotto should be: creamy, luxurious, perfectly al dente, and fragrant with the earthy aroma of black truffles. We rounded off this rather splendid meal with the Tiramisu, which pleasingly delivered a bold, strong coffee kick, none of your overly sweetened affairs here – precisely as it ought to be.
Aspen Cafe is more than just a convenient cafe; it's a destination for high-quality food and impeccable service that makes any visit to the mall feel a little bit more special. It’s a gem that deserves to be sought out, and I suspect, like us, you'll find yourself planning your return before you've even finished your last bite.

The service at Aspen is always good, but Beshoy made this morning exceptional. From the moment I sat down, he asked about allergies, made sure I got exactly what I wanted, and kept my tea topped up throughout. What really stood out was his attention to detail. I had ordered an omelette that came out a little small, and without me saying a word, he noticed my expression and came straight over to check if everything was alright. I told him it was just a bit small, and he immediately arranged for a second portion, reassuring me that next time he would make sure it was just right. Beshoy was warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful throughout, an outstanding example of what great hospitality should be.
I also want to extend my thanks to Mostafa and Moses, who were just as attentive and friendly throughout my stay. They made sure my breakfast was spot on every single day, always with a smile and great energy. And a special thank you to the managers for arranging a farewell cake on my last morning, such a thoughtful gesture that truly made me feel valued as a guest. A brilliant...
Read moreI had a truly elegant dining experience at Aspen in the Kempinski Hotel. The ambiance was refined yet relaxed, with warm service that made the evening feel special from start to finish.
I started with the lobster spinach salad, which was perfectly balanced — the sweetness of the lobster paired beautifully with fresh spinach and a light citrusy dressing. A refreshing and luxurious start.
For the main course, I chose the grilled salmon, which was seared to perfection: crispy on the outside, flaky and moist inside. It was served with seasonal vegetables and a delicate sauce that complemented rather than overpowered the dish.
To finish, the Black Forest dessert was a delightful twist on the classic. Rich, yet not overly sweet, with just the right amount of cherry tartness to cut through the chocolate. A beautiful presentation, too.
Aspen offers a calm, sophisticated atmosphere tucked inside one of Dubai’s busiest locations. Whether you’re staying at the Kempinski or just visiting the Mall of the Emirates, it's a perfect spot for a luxurious meal or a refined...
