I dined with Clay last night to celebrate my partner’s birthday. I informed the booking team of this, and they informed me that something special will be arranged, even asking the name of my partner. Upon arrival, I checked with the hostess at the entrance if the information was there, and she confirmed with me the birthday and name are noted. After dining, the waiter asks if we would like dessert, to which we say yes. He proceeds to bring a cake without no candle or birthday song, which I send back. He comes back to me to ask what is wrong, to which I show a message on my phone informing him of the birthday, which I expected him to be aware of.

2 other waiters then bring back the cake with a candle and sing happy birthday very unenthusiastically. (While dining we had seen another birthday with much more staff and louder vocals.)

By the end of all of this, I have to inform the other waiters of what happened as the manager was not aware of the events. The manager finally finds me after I have already paid the bill. There was no compensation (which you’d think they’d discount a 89AED cake at least for what happened).

It was a very poor ending to a planned special occasion. Even your local food court restaurant would remember to wish a customer happy birthday if informed ahead of time.

The manager gave me his card and ask if he can call me throughout the week, however I’m not sure how that will rectify or compensate what happened throughout the night.

Ambience: Restaurant seems to be beautifully designed. The location of the restaurant, the access and the entrance lacks the basic requirements of a fine dining restaurant which Clay seems to be. The venue is in a dire contrast to its neighboring activities and that to me creates a dissonance. ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️

Food: Food has been absolutely fantastic. The fusion of different flavors has created different combinations in each dish which was mouth watering. The presentation of each dish presented was a work of art in itself. Food was simply great. ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️

Service: Not impressive at all. I made a booking a week ahead to avoid any booking difficulty and we were literally given the worse table in the whole restaurant. When I made the booking I did request a good table in the balcony but to our disappointment we got the most corner table which didn’t even feel inside of the restaurant as we couldn’t even see what was happening in the restaurant. The service was slow. We were a table of 3 people and the waitress was filling 4 glasses of water on our table. We never asked what temperature of water we want. We had to ask 3 times for the bill.
