There was big hype when Hawker Chan opened in Dubai. People used to line up for 45 minutes to get their food. I decided to wait, until I went last night, Monday at 19:30. To my surprise, the place was empty there was no lineup and I got my food in almost 10 minutes. I ordered the medium braised beef with noodles and the medium duck with rice. Unfortunately the medium serving is not enough for a hungry person who skipped lunch.
The braised beef and noodles are tasty but don’t meet the standard of a Michelin star. On there other hand, I definitely had better Duck in other restaurants. The way the duck is chopped is irritating as there are bones everywhere and there is no way you can eat it with the fork and spoon that they provide and no way the chopsticks will do any good either. The portion of actual duck meat on the plate is disappointingly tiny. To make things worse the amount of sauce on the duck dish is not enough for the amount of rice. Leaving me with bland tasteless steamed rice on its own.
I was disappointed saying the least, if I knew I would not have driven 24 Kilometers to go try Hawker Chan. If I’m in Dubai Mall and in the mood for Chinese I will give the other stalls a try or I opt for my tried and tasted favorites Din Tai Fung or New...
Read moreHawker Chan and its famous Soya Sauce Chicken, I couldn't wait to try it out. I must say, the food did not disappoint! The Soya Sauce Chicken was incredibly flavorful and tender, just as I had heard. The sauce had the perfect balance of sweet and savory, and it really complemented the chicken well. The portion size was also quite generous, so I left the restaurant feeling satisfied and happy. . The rice was perfectly cooked, and the meats were beautifully caramelized and packed with flavor. The restaurant itself had a cozy and laid-back atmosphere, which added to the overall dining experience. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the service was prompt. I appreciated their knowledge about the menu and their willingness to offer recommendations. Overall, I had a fantastic dining experience at Hawker Chan Restaurant. The food was top-notch, the service was great, and the prices were reasonable. If you're a fan of Singaporean cuisine or just looking to try something new, I highly recommend giving this...
Read moreAllegedly they serve the world’s most affordable Michelin Star meal. (I later learned they lost their Michelin Star in 2023.)
I ordered the roasted duck w/ a side of stirfried seasonal vegetables. I paid approx. 44 AED or 11 euros.
I asked if they could debone my duck. The cashier told me they could, but I would receive less duck. I then asked if she could change my order from medium to large - because I thought I might receive a little bit more duck.
The duck itself was tasty. However, it was served lukewarm. I thought it would be hot. I also thought the skin would be crispy - which it was not.
The duck came with a huge scoop of rice, a few slices of cucumber and tomato and half a hardboiled egg. Everything was covered in soya sauce.
I was surprised to learn that the stirfried vegetables I had ordered was lettuce. I did not realise you could stirfry lettuce.
The meal was fine. I expected a little bit more from a (former) Michelin...
