Surprisingly small and a little cramped, located just above the ice rink in Dubai Mall. You gotta walk through the food court, going all the way around to find this place. Not that big a deal, just fyi.
Right off the bat, when we asked the server to be seated in a clearly visible pty booth, she insisted on seating us more inward. Make of that what you will. I got my booth eventually tho.
The selection of meats is pretty good. You don't get to see the Rump cut that often around Dubai, and just their overall selection was above average. If you're a vegetarian, sorry wrong restaurant. Now I'm used to a selection of atleast 5-10 sides with my meat cuts, including but not limited to steak fries, seasoned fries, mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, etc. Here, they've got 4. Yep, just FOUR; a lightly dressed leaf salad, paprika seasoned fries (these were pretty good), garlic rice and mashed potatoes. Yep that's about it. The quintessential sides, but I'd have loved more choice.
Our table got the 350lbs Ribeye (MR), 300lbs Rump (MR), and the Double Cheeseburger (M). All of the meats were really really well cooked. The burger was a soggy mess breaking down the moment it was touched BUT it tasted amazing. Soft bun, lightly buttered, not very saucy, and the patties were seasoned well. The steaks however were hardly seasoned at all, both felt pretty bland and I had to resort to using my mushroom sauce for some flavor in between bites. Again, cooked to perfection, hardly seasoned.
We also got the Ginger Passion juice, Passionfruit Mojito, Lime Mojito, all of which were decent, come in a tall glass, refreshing, not too much ice. The Ginger Passion was the big hit, as that very subtle ginger helped cut through the meat once we finished eating.
Bill came up to the mid-400s, which isn't terrible honestly for the food. I would've paid around 300 without concern seeing as how sorely lacking the seasoning on my steak was, but it wasn't outrageously priced either.
Lots of families and couples here, we went on a Tuesday and it was pretty full. Strong African presence in the staff and patrons, so could be a good hangout for African groups, but there were families of all kind too.
Overall, pretty good experience but not sure if I'd go back too soon. Probably a good visit but not a...
Read moreI recently visited The Grill Shack, a South African restaurant located in the food court of the Dubai Mall. The restaurant has a nice view of the ice rink, and the atmosphere is casual and relaxed.
I started my meal with the grilled chicken wings, which were tossed in a delicious peri peri sauce. The wings were juicy and flavorful, and they were a great way to start my meal. I appreciated that the wings were grilled instead of deep-fried. I also liked that the wings were not coated in a thick batter, which can often be greasy and heavy.
For my main course, I had the Cheesy Burger, which was cooked medium to my liking. The burger was juicy and flavorful, and the cheese was melted. The bun was also soft and flavorful, a pleasant change from the trendy potato and brioche buns. I found that the classic bun held up well to the burger patty and didn't get soggy. I also liked that the burger was made with thick patties, which I find to be more flavorful and satisfying than the thinner smashed patties that are popular these days.
The service at The GrillShack was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, and he made sure that we had everything we needed. He also gave us some good recommendations for dishes to try.

Read moreWe recently visited Grill Shack as part of their 2nd anniversary celebration. It’s located inside Dubai Mall food court with ample seating inside the restaurant. The staffs were really friendly and helped us out in choosing the dishes.
Started off with a Passion fruit mojito and an Oreo milkshake. I loved the milkshake and it was quite thick and creamy. From starters, we had Cheetos chicken tenders, one of the best seller here .It comes with swirled fries and a dip. Loved it. Short rib spring rolls. It was a different version of spring rolls with puff pastry rolls and the filling was quite unique as well.
Moving on to the mains, we had Prime US rib eye flame grilled with their unique flavors.. we chose to have it with mashed potatoes and pepper sauce. The quality was really good. Wagyu burger with pure angus beef and topped with fried egg was the next one we tried. It was humongous and the portion size was great. Grilled chicken pasta - Farfalle pasta which comes with mushrooms, tomato, bacon, cheese and chicken tenders was my son’s favorite with mild spices. Finally for desserts we had Sticky date and toffee pudding was chosen from the desserts. It wasn’t good as expected.
Verdict- From starters to drinks to main course to desserts everything was great except the sticky toffee pudding as it wasn’t...
