I visited the Elequant Elephant bar in Business Bay for a spot of lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I arrived at the Taj Hotel and made my way through to find the bar. On arrival, I found it was quiet with only a handful of tables occupied, which made for a relaxed atmosphere. I was offered a choice of seating and once I had settled, I was given both a food menu and a separate drinks menu.
I ordered my drink and the server updated me on the roast dinner and pie options available at the weekend. I decided to go for the chicken pie. After a short and reasonable wait, the food arrived and was really well presented. Unfortunately, the pie filling was not quite to my liking. It had more of a minced chicken texture and was quite bland, which was a bit disappointing. The pastry was ok, but even the accompanying gravy could not quite save it. The mash on the side was fine but nothing memorable.
The bar itself is very nicely decorated and has plenty of large screens showing sports, although there was no sound, and the preference seemed to be towards cricket, which might not suit everyone. A standout feature was the gents bathroom, which was a unique experience with buckets replacing urinals in a stylish and quirky way.
Overall, it was an ok visit with ok service in a very nicely designed bar. The food did not quite hit the mark, but the setting made it a pleasant enough place to relax...
Read moreWalk into the Taj hotel and you're greeted with amazing hospitality and a fragrance that takes you away. Down to the restaurant and you enter into an amazingly comfortable, quaint, chic environment littered with lanterns in mason jars along the walls and welcoming staff. Inside seating is ample and comfortable with tables spread out for the situation these days but the outside is a garden terrace that's unexpected. Booked an outside table and was I glad I did. Comfortable high top tables mixed with sofa seating makes for an extremely chilled environment yet sophisticated. Great drink options inside and outside of the Happy Hour. Food...they cater to Vegans!!!! and it's so friggin delicious! It's challenging to find Vegan food but this spot goes way above impressing you. The vegan roast was out of this world! Just delicious. Hats off the chef and his team. Service and staff are as you'd expect from a Taj brand hotel. Kunal took my phone reservation and later came by and introduced himself staying he had already advised the staff and chef that I was the inquiry on Vegan options so they were prepared to make the roast whenever I was ready. He served us the rest of the evening and spent quality time with us talking about the food and restaurant. He made us feel like we were more than just patrons. This is now our new go to spot! Valet parking is available and free...
Read moreAfter reading good reviews, I was surprised that the food & experience was not great at this brunch. The tacky paper armband put on your wrist when you pay upfront, like you’re going to a rave, was the first warning sign. We made the 2 tiny round bar tables work for 6 people. I had the projector shining light directly at me. If you book, ask that you’re not seated under the screen. You can order 1 main and have as many of the 4 starters and 3 desserts as you’d like. The goats cheese salad was the highlight for me. Mains took over an hour to arrive (considering this is a 3.5 hour brunch with only 6 options for mains, this is not ok) The burger was pretty good, I’d love to be able rate the onion rings but I’m still waiting on them to arrive after pointing them out on the menu, and asking twice. Ice cream on the dessert was icy and not creamy, breaking into pieces when you tried to scoop some up. I won’t be back for brunch, but on the positive side, it’s a nice looking place and the service for drinks was...
