Modern dining experience, with industrial/urban décor. Prices reasonable, but when you see what comes on your plate I would be happy paying more. We were greeted by a confident young woman (Hannah, the manager) who showed us to our table, and wasn't phased by us asking to move to another. A more private booth ensured we could chat intimately, and not be bothered by the general noise of the restaurant. We ordered the in-house meal (we're staying in the hotel, see review) and drinks. Short wait for the drinks, and Hannah showed her personable side by laughing with us over a minor, inconsequential misunderstanding. Starters arrived, and the nachos with pulled beef are some of the best I've eaten, just the right size for two, and the colours included were beautiful. Unusual to be so enamoured by tortillas but they were wonderful, and so fresh: the chefs know how to cook! Main course consisted of fish for both of us, in different guises, and this reinforced the chef's skill (one was deep fried, one chargrilled) as it was perfectly cooked, and succulent. The restaurant is known as a steak bar, where you can have one cut to order (the biggest being 105 ounces!) and I wouldn't think twice about allowing Gemma, Michal or Jess (the chefs) to cook it properly. So impressed by the food was I that I thanked them myself, with a token of my appreciation. My wife then had a pudding, but by this time I was full, due to the size of portions, and she ate it herself, thoroughly enjoying it. There were other members of staff on duty, and all were polite, friendly and helpful, without being intrusive, (sadly I don't know their names) and we hopefully showed how much we appreciated them. This was a great experience, one that we are unlikely to repeat sadly, but a positive review will hopefully show them, and you what a great team/place/food this is, and that they're appreciated and valued. Thanks guys, you helped make our...

We travelled to bath for the weekend and really wanted a steak night! After reading reviews this looked like the place to go, we were very wrong. I don’t leave a lot of reviews but don’t want people making the disappointing, expensive mistake we did!
For starters we ordered Mac and cheese bites were average, salt and pepper squid which simple didn’t have any squid in it and finally beef burnt ends which were the best things about the meal!
Then the main course came I had the sirloin steak asked to be cooked medium, my partner had the ribeye steak asked to be cooked medium - rare.
When my steak came out firstly I noticed was the height of it, it was about 6inches high and not very wide and looked very charred on the outside, my partners was like an piece of cardboard and looked anaemic.
When cutting in to our steaks mine was rare in the middle well done on the edges and extremely dry and simply tasteless and extremely charred on the outside, it wasn’t good.
My partner’s who asked for a medium rare, was cooked well done it was also tasteless, looked like a bit of thin cardboard it was disgusting.
The sides were average at the best, triple cooked chips which were clearly only cooked once! Onion rings had a very strong taste of beer and the pieces of onion were nearly not existent, truffle mac and cheese which was actually pretty good.
So to sum up, the staff in the restaurant were super friendly, we got 25% discount off our meal when complaining about the cooking of the steaks.
The food when you’re charging top prices not worth it, this place is just a glammed up harvester...
Read moreOur party of four went (on a friend's referral) to Bar and Block Restaurant Mon Apr 29 for dinner and took advantage of their 2 for 1 entree offer. One should always beware of these standing offers. But, we decided to trust in our friend's glowing referral. Mistake! At first glance the interior didn't speak of being a steakhouse at all. Then again, we didn't come for the ambience. Turns out we shouldn't have come at all. The surf and turf was pathetic. The lobster tails were more the size of a large crayfish (basically as long and thick as my middle finger), than lobsters'. I've never seen such tiny tails. They were also overcooked and dry. The turf portion was also tough and chewy. My wife and second friend ordered the 8oz filet steak. These succulent cuts are noted for their reliable tenderness. My wife commented that this one was so tough it should have had a Nike 'Swoosh' stamped on it! I ordered the lamb souvlaki dinner. More aptly a 'lamb skewer' since there was no rice or pita included. Only a few roasted vegetables which were nothing to write home about. Worst of all the lamb was tough beyond palatability. What I was able to eat left my jaw so sore from endless futile macerating. Our server was very courteous and we tipped her appropriately. Conclusion? You get what you pay. Unfortunately, at Bar and Block Restaurant you don't even get that. Dine elsewhere...
