Society Café — Restaurant in Bath

Stopped by like I have on several occasions when cycling through Bath and ordered one cappuccino and specialist tea for my wife,as usual the coffee was barely warm, we were sitting at a table outside when all of a sudden the table tilted and spilt half a cup of coffee into my lap, I managed to save the cups and teapot from smashing on the ground,on close examination I noticed that the table leg had disappeared down a join between the paving slabs,the waiter who was standing next to the table remarked that it was the nature of the surface on which the table was standing, he was surprised that I appeared angry, he explained that as he was a part time worker it was not his responsibility, and I should complain to the council,my concern was that the coffee and tea if they were hot could have scalded a child standing there, so next time I will visit one of the other coffee...

We used to love going here for the coffee and cakes but today was awful. The service was slow and, when I asked if our two coffees were ready, a very rude young man told me they were on the side waiting for the milk!! It was just a normal Americano with milk - although I noted that the cups were not the larger, recycled cups for drinking outside as I had requested. Anyway, we had to wait a few more minutes - it was obvious the young team on duty were in no hurry. The girl serving looked thoroughly unhappy and just said, when I asked about the cups, your request was not on the order. Regular haunt for me, great friendly staff, nice chilled atmosphere, plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor and there’s always a great selection of magazines to flip through. Kingsmead Square is a great location for watching the world go by.

Knowledgable staff when it comes to coffee but they’re never pretentious about it like some coffee shops, the coffee chat is there if you want it and they have some interesting ever changing guest espressos on offer.
