Joint worst Indian restaurant I have been to. Was really looking forward to it but from the very get go it wasn't great, placed a booking which they didn't appear to be aware of however had plenty of free tables. Poppadoms and drinks order was taken swiftly and all was good. We then had an uncomfortably long wait before our order was taken which can be understandable if they were very busy but they weren't and there was plenty of standing around. It was eventually taken and starter arrived in reasonable time. The starters were okay but nothing to write home about, not over cooked but a little slimey.

It was after this it went really down hill when we had to wait over an hour and 20 minutes for our food to arrive. During this time we had a waiter come to our table once to ask for more drinks and when asking about the food he said he will check but failed to do so and instead went to do drinks for another table.

After being there for over 2 hours food finally arrived but the evening was not redeemed. Rice order was messed up and 2 rice's weren't delivered, when mentioned the waiter went and grabbed one of the wrong types of rice and smoked it on the table before disappearing again. The dishes themselves did not reflect pictures others have shown, the 4 pieces of chicken I received sat about the sauce in the dish and for a £12.50 dish the quantity was concerning. Another form my group received less prices than the chicken takeaway starter. Meals were also laden with oil and the taste was distinctly average. The bill came wrong due to us not receiving the food we ordered and they still tried to bill for it. When questioned about the rice and how long the wait was they correct the price and removed £10 from the bill which was pretty poor considering there was a service charge of nearly double that so they still collected a tip despite an...

Saturday night in Bath and such a disappointment . Restaurant was fairly busy when we arrived but emptied out whilst we were there. Poppadoms came and had the best lime pickle I ve ever eaten. They had run out of onion bhaji so didn't order starters due to limited veggie choice. It then took well over 30mins for our mains. No food appeared to be coming out of the kitchen in that time but the drinks did ! When mains arrived the veg madras had zero taste I've never had a madras like it ...full of grease/soapy consistency with broccoli , cabbage and zero potatoes and just hot (I don't mind hot but it was bland and no flavour ) . My husband s was good but there was no check in if the food was ok and by the time someone wandered over (they were more interested in serving beers ) my husband had eaten all of his. I complained and refused to pay for that and the non eaten naan. I was offered a pudding and I said I've not eaten anything ...why would I have a pudding!?! Not gonna go back. Shocking...

My wife and I had dinner at The Grand Eastern restaurant (Quite Street, Bath) on Saturday 23 July 2022. It was a very pleasant experience.

About the building: The outside of the building is in keeping with the traditional looks of the buildings in Bath - Stone walls. The inside is nicely laid out, beautifully decorated and features beautiful Indian murals. It looks like it may have been a ballroom or a function room at some point. It has high ceilings with big round skylights that blend nicely with the rest of the dƩcor.

About the food: The food was exquisite. We had Samosas, Sheek Kebabs, Tiger Prawn Bhuna, Lamb Korai and Pilau rice washed down with soft drinks. They were all succulent and more than satisfied our expectations.

About the service The service was good and the staff were polite and pleasant.

About the prices The prices were very very reasonable. They charge a 10% service charge which I think is very reasonable.

My Verdict I highly recommend dining at the Great...

One of the best Indian restaurants in Bath. I have been twice now and had positives experiences on both occasions. The restaurant is very impressive and unique in terms of its styling and the sheer size of it. It can get very, very busy, particularly when Bath rugby are playing at home. However, there were plenty of attentive staff during both of my visits. Drinks selection is some of the best I’ve seen at an Indian restaurant. The bar is absolutely huge. The food is very nice, as some other have mentioned, portion sizes are relatively small compared to other restaurants I’ve eaten at, but it’s perfectly acceptable. Staff are really nice. Toilets are clean, but like other have also mentioned, it would benefit from a refresh and some new carpet on the stairs which look really worn. All in all though, a really good experience and I recommend the Grand Eastern.

The food here is lovely, however I feel a few more bits of chicken in the dishes would have been desirable. The drinks we ordered came promptly. The venue is impressive also. The reason I have given only 3 stars is due to the staff. Upon arrival we were not greeted and left standing awkwardly in the doorway, even though we had made eye contact and said hello to a few of the staff. We were not asked how the food was during the meal. It took at least 15 minutes to get a member of staffs attention to get the bill, there were only about 5 other tables of customers. When we managed to get a member of staff to come to our table, we also asked if we could take what we hadn't eaten, away with us. They do offer a takeaway service. It was like we had done a crime or something horrific. If the staff were more friendly and accommodating I would recommend here.

My first time visiting the grand eastern and if you blink you miss it. Once your in the restaurant everything feels authentic Indian. The decor is stunning and then the food and service just takes it to another level. I went with the Bhuna and i have had many bhunas across Bristol and Bath and this is the best one I’ve had yet! And I have to mention the peacocks mango and lime cider that had available. The best cider I have ever had! Incredible. So good in fact I bought some from Amazon! The staff were super friendly and polite and made sure everything was good with our food and service! I 100% recommend this place to others who are looking for a good Indian restaurant in Bristol and Bath! Will be back again for sure!
