We wanted to try the place especially for its location. I reserved a table for two, but when we arrived they couldn't locate it. That was surprising as it was a Thursday evening and it was not a busy night. They gave the table away to another couple, so we got accompanied to the table on one side of the room. I immediately noticed the dust on the ornaments hanging from the walls, signed that the place is not clean. The table was fine. The interior is decorated with a real exotic touch and the waiters wear what I believe might be traditional clothes. A bit superfluous for me, but I believe most people would like it. With such an attire and decorations I expected the food to be delicious. Not quite right.
Our order comprehended one starter to share, a soup with chicken, three dishes (beef, chicken and prawns) accompanied with sides of rice and noodles. While ordering we asked for a couple of items to be served without coriander. The waiter, visibly confused, said "Okay no coriander for everything." No this is not what I asked... I explained it one more time in the clearest and most concised way possible. We still got all the dishes without coriander. The vegetarian starter was bland, tasty only the plum sauce it came with it. The soup was really flavoured, but the chicken in it tasted funny. I believe it was because the food was previously cooked and then reheated when ordered, this it how chicken get that funny taste. So, keep in mind that NONE of the food is cooked at the moment, but instead is simply reheated. In fact, the same story goes for the chicken in one of our main dishes, again tasting kind of funny. The sweet and sour prawns were simply drown in a sweet sauce and all the 3 dishes were quite oily. Nice taste for the sauces for the beef and the chicken dishes, unfortunately the experience was ruined by the food being reheated. Portions were fine, I wouldn't have eaten more than that anyways.
The service is polite and the waiters smily, but unfortunately they seem not able to process simple requests.
In total we paid £62.50 with a bottle of sparkling water. I was happy to add to the bill the 10% service charge, but they said they could only accept that in cash. So, they got just a few coins.
Overall, food is average, nothing special or that I would call traditional, oily, maybe a bit pricey considering is reheated. Service is polite, but not very skilled. Location is nice if you get a window seat, but the place is visibly dirty. The place tries to distract the customers with a mocking Thai vibes and plenty of useless ornaments from the culinary experience, which must be definitely improved. I wouldn't recommend it.
Alternatively, a very tasty Pad-thai can be found near the big Sainsbury's at "Thai Hut". This I strongly recommend but is only...
Read moreVery disappointing experience. Although the restaurant was not busy for a Saturday evening, the staff were more interested in dealing with take away orders than serving guests in the restaurant. After waiting 30 minutes, I had to go up to the bar and ask for our drinks order to be taken. The member of staff also took our food order, and then our starters arrived (like warm) before any drinks had arrived. I had to ask again for our drinks, and eventually our drinks did arrive, but not the correct ones that we ordered. We decided to keep the wrong drinks due to the delay, and I even had to open/decork the bottle of prosecco myself as the waitress disappeared!! The main course was piping hot and to be fair delicious (hence my 2 stars for that alone). At no point during the meal did any member of staff ask if our food was okay or check if we wanted to order any more drinks! I had to go up to the bar again to ask for the bill, which arrived with incorrect items added that we had not received! I asked for the incorrect items and the service charge to be removed, which to be fair was removed without any dispute. I tried to quietly explain the issues we had but it was clear that the manager and staff were not interested and didn't want to hear any feedback. When we left all members of staff ignored us and pretended not to see us leaving, even though we remained polite throughout the experience. We have travelled in by train to eat here many times previously, however needless to say we will never be returning again after this very...
Read moreWe were seated quickly with a choice of indoors or outdoors, we sat indoors as the street was too noisy for our liking. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. Our drinks order was taken by a young lady, and then our starter and main orders a short time later. The drinks arrived with the starters, so it took a little while for the drinks to appear but they were brought over by a very very friendly older gentleman, and starters were brought by an older lady. Sadly this is the last we saw of the mature staff. A younger server brought our mains and brought my husband the wrong curry, she took it away with no apology. I started to eat my meal to avoid it going cold, a different young lady who took the order brought the correct curry and again did not apologise! The food was delicious we have to say. Plates and cutlery were cleared away very noisily by a young lady server. After asking for the bill it was brought along with the card payment machine and then the young lady left, we tapped the machine and got up to leave, the young lady came over and asked 'oh did you pay?', to which my husband replied 'you would know if you had stayed, yes we did', and we left. Due to the poor service we would not return despite the lovely food. The younger ladies need to learn more about service and good...
