Once you got through the sea of cigarette smoke, we found a table most where reserved however we unable to advance reserve a table for 2. Went to the bar to order drinks to be given a dirty look by an elderly lady who was previously outside smoking now behind the bar. Upon finishing the drinks I returned the empyts to the bar, the server seeing this did not even say thank you. The food came talk about poor value I ordered the chicken burger it well over cooked possibly a reheat, my Wife ordered the hunters chicken smallest chicken breast I had ever seen, a few chips in a bowl and a small spoon of coleslaw and half an over cooked tomato covered in pepper. The salt was so full it wouldn't come out. I had been here several times before but it has gone downhill drastically, I will now have to look elsewhere when I visit the theatre...

Fantastic pub located in the city centre in the heart of the Villa, neighbouring China Town. A diverse mix of individuals can be found within the pub, due to it being being located near New Street Station and opposite the Hippodrome Theatre.

The pub serves a high quality range of lagers and cask beer and food, and is always clean. Bar staff are always polite, courteous and informative.

The manager is extremely friendly and welcoming, he also had a great sense of humour.

The pub benefits from several characteristic features, mainly it's old-school brass bar and quaint interior.

My favourite pub in Birmingham.

In my opinion this is the best independent pub in Birmingham, head and shoulders above the homogenous chain pubs found littered throughout the city..

Cannot wait for...

We went to go see sister act at the hippodrome. The place we wanted to go to wasn't open. I rang up after trying several places to be told they didn't have a table but would take my name and number if something came up. They said we where welcome to come down and wait. Half way from grand Central a lovely lady called me to say there was a table. We got there and ordered. A great menu on offer including specials. We had 2 pizzas, 1 steak baguettes and a cajun salad. Food came within half an hour, and was piping hot. It was so delicious and my mum said it was the best pizza she had had in a long time. We would highly recommend this as a pre theatre restaurant and for drinks. A bottle of house rose wine was £18 which was delicious and did 5 glasses of wine. Highly...

Absolutely beautiful food. Never had a bad meal yet! You can tell all the meals are freshly made to order and none of this microwave stuff. The staff are lovely, friendly and will always have a chat with you and always welcome you with a massive smile. A testament to a well ran pub with perfect ales a d gins on offer and other drinks also. Already planning my next visit. Thanks guys!!!!!

It's a pub with character (and some oddball characters in it), and there are not many of those about now. It's a theater pub with a shabby (and somewhat dirty) Victorian decor. The beer we had was nice but we didn't eat there. Duke box too loud for me - why can't you have conversations in pubs any more! I said "WHY CAN'T YOU HAVE CONVERSATIONS IN PUBS ANY MORE!"

The Doombar was great, and the atmosphere was lovely, but unfortunately, the food was a bit disappointing. My salad was soaked in a dressing that was far too sour, almost like drinking vinegar, and my partner’s pie was only lukewarm. I’d return for the beer, but I’d definitely eat somewhere else next time. My takeaway cheese and bacon burger was quiet good also.
