⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A fascinating and fun journey into the past

The Deva Roman Experience is one of the most unique attractions in Chester. It offers a deep dive into the city’s Roman roots in an interactive and immersive way. From the moment you step inside, you feel like you’re walking through time. The exhibits recreate life in Roman Britain with realistic sets, atmospheric lighting, and sound effects — it’s like being in a historical film set.

There are reconstructions of Roman streets, houses, and even a Roman bathhouse. One highlight is the chance to experience what it was like to be a Roman soldier — kids and adults can dress up and try out activities like marching drills or learning about Roman food, tools, and clothing.

The archaeological section is also impressive, showcasing real Roman artifacts found right under Chester’s streets. There are plenty of interactive elements, making this ideal for families and school visits, but history fans of all ages will find it rewarding.

The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, happy to answer questions and guide visitors through the experience. It’s not a massive museum, but every corner is well thought out and packed with information. Overall, it’s an excellent stop while exploring Chester, and a fun way to learn about the city's...

We enjoyed our visit as a weekend activity with the kids. It's under 10 minutes from the large Linenhall car park and we didn't book tickets in advance (though you can if you want to be certain of a place). It's a very lively and interactive trip back in time with some interesting characters to meet. It definitely kept the kids attention throughout! After the main tour, there's a chance to explore some excavations going back to Roman times, and there was a fun dressing-up area. The staff were all great and very pleasant. There are toilets but no cafe (though plenty of eateries a few minutes walk away in the city centre). It took us around 2 hours to do the tour and exhibits, my only criticism was the price was a little high for a family of four. Otherwise highly recommended as a very interactive and memorable...

Wow! We had the most amazing time for my Roman-Total-Wars-obsessed dad’s 54th birthday! Honestly such a memorable experience and the staff (particularly Francesca and Joe!) were absolutely fantastic! The experience was so informative, had hilarious live actors, and really REALLY made us laugh! Best memory is my dad putting on full Roman armour and fighting a gladiator (he absolutely bollocked Gladiator Atlas 1-v1!). I would definitely recommend the Deva Roman Experience. It was also a lovely touch that this was specific to the history of Chester, which my father is now officially part of! Great for families and I honestly cannot praise the incredible staff enough! Great value for money! Wish I could rate this...

Very fascinating tour through roman chester in this great exhibition. The tour guide (archaeologist) was extremely knowledgeable and fun. Tours run hourly (I think), so so may be worth booking in advance if needed although we booked ours on the day and came back 45 minutes later for it after a walk around the nearby shopping area. Great value for money and the kids will enjoy it too, especially at the end with the hands on activities area. It wasn't very well sign posted so hopefully they manage to get some street signage on the main shopping street next to it ensuring more visited visitors find this gem.
