Ichiban — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

We ordered Eel Donburi, Sushi Platter, Chow Mein and a bunch of other stuff. Considering the price, loads of maki/california rolls for the sushi platter, a reasonable amount of chow mein, and a small donburi.

The sushi platter started off reasonable, though the rice was quite dry and didn't hold together all that well. For the amount, the price was reasonable, until toward the end of the maki one of us hit a bone and choked; the inside of his throat was scratched after coughing which resulted in some blood. Not a great start to a meal.

I can't say much for the chow mein since I didn't have any but it seemed pretty oily and overcooked, as though it had been made far earlier and wasn't fresh at all. Some sort of curry accompanied this, and it seemed reasonable.

The eel donburi (my dish) had some reasonable eel, though it was quite bland and lacked the smooth rich flavor that you generally find with freshly cooked eel, and the meat fell apart quite easily, indicating it was frozen beforehand and not fresh; considering the price, that's pretty saddening, especially since some comparable places I regularly eat at offer fresh freshwater eel at a lower price for their dishes. The accompanying rice didn't have much flavor, was quite dry, and all in all definitely didn't suit such a dish. The wasabi and ginger garnish was hastily added and the wasabi paste itself didn't have as rich and sharp a flavor as one would hope for, and all the dish filled a smaller than average plastic tub.

Either way, the meal was definitely not worth the amount paid in total and one of us quite possibly had gained a reasonable scratch from that long fish bone in the...

I was having a very low day so to chear myself up I decided to order a Japanese. So I ordered from Ichiban at back of 2 and they said that it was going to arrive at 2.55. A little later they had to add another 5 minutes on which didn't bother me. When it got to 3 my food did not arrive, so I waited. However, by the time it got to quarter past I decided I needed to do something so I phoned up the restaurant and nobody answered. So I checked online and found out that they had closed at 2.30 until 5pm. I was very angry and upset that I was able to make an order when they were actually closed. Much just like how my day was going. So it got to quarter to 4 and suddenly the deliveryman arrived with my food. I tld him that he was 45 minutes late, and he blank refused it. I told him that they said that it was going to arrive at 3 but he completely refused it. I even got an email at 3 asking how my food was and to rate it, so I know it was meant to be there at 3. But the fact that they were going to make me pay as well as deny they were late, that was dissapointing. In fact I am dissapointed on many levels. Sorry I had to put a bad review up, I am sure your sit in is very nice, but as I refused to take the food I can't say how...

I have ordered from just eat two starters and rice which costed £15.80 with delivery. Although it is not cheap I hoped for a good meal. I placed my order at 18.21 and received it at 20.10! The girl on the phone said it was because of traffic, however the distance between the restaurant and the delivery address is about 2.5 miles, therefore by walk it could have been delivered faster. I was given a can of fanta and irn bru as an apology which I didn't need nor like it. I was still very patient and polite and did not ask for anything else nor made a huge deal about the extreme delay. However the food came stone cold (not even a bit warm), and the chicken katsu which should have come with the katsu curry sauce came without any sauce. Also the menu did not say there will be seaweed as garnish and I don't eat any type of seafood, luckily it is not an allergy so I could just scrap it off, however it tasted with seafood. After all this, I have asked the girl who was in contact with me by sms to refund my meal, she said her manager will contact me later. I am still waiting nearly 24 hours later. I do not recommend this restaurant, at least not for takeaway. Very poor meal and treatment...
