We made a reservation at The Palm Restaurant in Coventry through the website, and at no point were we informed about any special rules. When we arrived and were seated, everything seemed fine, but it was only when we placed our order that the waiter told us each person must purchase a meal each, which did not include the starters we order (we placed four with a group of 5). The waiter then had seek authorisation for our order with management, who eventually said it was okay.
When we asked why this was a rule in the first place, the explanation given was that it gets busy on Fridays. Which is weird because we made a reservation online and this rule was not stipulated anywhere.
Essentially, they are valuing how much you spend, which can vary widely from family to family.
For example, we visited as a family of five including three children, and buying them each a full meal would have been excessive and simply wasteful. Bear in mind we ordered starters too. This kind of policy should have been made clear at the time of booking.
The waiter who served us was polite and did their best, but unfortunately, the way management treated their staff was very off-putting. We were sat at the back, near where the waiters stand and overlook the restaurant, and it was uncomfortable to hear a manager speak to a member of staff so harshly, saying in a rude tone, “get this done now.” The waiters themselves were great, but management’s behaviour towards them left a negative impression.
Another disappointing point was the drinks situation. The restaurant does not offer tap water, and the only water option available was bottled at £3.95. For anyone boycotting Coca-Cola products (as I am), this left no real choice, which felt unreasonable.
As for the food, I found it far too expensive for what you actually get. If you’re travelling especially (as we did from Leicester), I would honestly recommend The Farmhouse Coventry instead, as it offers much better value for money.
On a positive note, the restaurant does provide a prayer room, which is thoughtful and convenient.
Overall, while the waiters were polite and attentive, the unclear booking rules, overpriced food, lack of basic options like tap water, and the way management treat their team meant my experience was...
Read moreI am Speechless on what I have experienced in this place tonight, firstly my friends booked it as a surprise for my 50th and we travelled from far away.
The food was average they paid extra for a birthday package which had no 50 th on the plate as requested , my friend was still eating and they took the dishes away (cctv will show that) , when we spoke to the manager regarding the birthday package issue he did not know what to say, and he bought the girl from the reception to the table and she called me Zara and i corrected her that my name is SAJ, she then started in a debate with my friend stating that she was not informed it was my 50th, after going back and forth and she started shrugging her shoulders and then they walked away. I was disgusted with the way she reacted and the fact the manager bought her to the table and were speaking above us and other customers listening to the conversation was very unprofessional and embarrassing and I gave my feedback to him as you should never come and debate at the table in front of me who’s birthday it was. He had the cheek to say my staff asked your friend to come to the desk, but he never gave her a chance to get up, as they walked towards the table. CCTV will show this . The manager took the service charge of the bill and another 10 for the birthday singing and sparkler which is embarrasing , and I told him he would not be getting a service charge anyway after I found the staff member rude and he needs to manage the team and learn from this mistake as a manager he should know how to treat customers . The place was quiet so you could hear people conversation feel very let down by this place , will not recommend going here ,and have walked away on my 50 th birthday very very disappointed. Staff need training and need to act more professional considering your rate yourself at a high standards ,, which I disagree with after what I have...
Read moreTerrible experience at The Palm after being initially very excited to try from recommendations. We had prebooked a table of 10 for eid. At first the staff seemed friendly and sat us quickly. Unfortunately this didn't stay the case. The music was so loud that we couldn't hear ourselves think at all and could barely hear each other when in conversation, even from right next to each other.
The drinks first arrived 30mins earlier than the food, when we requested everything at the same time. The drinks menu didn't explain what was in any of the mocktails leaving everything a guessing game. When asked what was in them they weren't explained well. I ordered a spiced pear cooler, which when arrived tasted of only ginger. Very misleading and expensive, and the glasses were not very big and filled with mostly ice
The portion sizes for the price were abysmally tiny. I ordered the salmon and I could have cooked better at home! We also ordered the chicken parm- which had no flavour bar the cheese, the slider burgers, which were a tiny portion and generically flavoured. Another ordered the pasta and the staff were shocked when we asked for cheese to go on top. The pasta was unfinished as it wasn't great. The lamb chops were hard and tough, having to be sent back. The Mac and cheese was had a grainy texture.
The service was terrible and we had to ask multiple times for things, asking multiple waiting staff and waiting long times for what we had requested. When we informed the staff about the spiced pear cooler tasting of straight ginger they replied very rudely saying "Okay? What do you want me to do?"
Overall the food was not worth the price and the service was not worth the amount we paid. Will not...
