Halal Japanese food in Coventry ! What a treat!
Date of visit: Friday, 26th September 2025 Rating: 9/10 (Service: 10/10 | Food & Flavour: 10/10)
This was my first visit to Teriyaki Japanese Kitchen and Bubble Tea Bar, and I was genuinely excited to try authentic Japanese food — especially since it’s often hard to find halal options for this type of cuisine.
We chose to dine in and were welcomed upstairs into a beautifully decorated space with a genuine oriental vibe — delicate blossom trees, floral displays, and warm lighting set a relaxing, authentic tone. The upstairs dining area is divided into three separate rooms, which made it feel spacious yet cozy.
One thing we noticed straight away was how busy and vibrant the restaurant was throughout our visit.
🍱 Our Orders Chicken Katsu Curry – £10.25 Original Chicken Ramen – £10.95 Salmon Maki (6 pieces) – £3.55 Drinks: Water & Viral Japanese Ramune Lemonade (with marble)
I have a sesame seed allergy, and the team was very attentive and accommodating. The server took care to ensure my meal was safe, which gave me peace of mind. He even suggested we move to a larger table so we’d have more space for our dishes — a thoughtful touch that didn’t go unnoticed.
🌟 Service Experience The service was excellent from start to finish. A special mention to Hoque, who was polite, professional, and genuinely friendly. Another server (whose name I didn’t get) also provided outstanding service, checking on us regularly to see if everything was okay and whether we needed anything.
Their attentiveness made us feel well looked after and truly enhanced our dining experience.
🍛 The Food The drinks came out quickly, and the Ramune lemonade was fun and interactive — definitely worth trying at least once!
The food arrived within 10 minutes, served piping hot and beautifully presented. Gentle oriental music played in the background, adding to the relaxing vibe.
Chicken Katsu Curry: Absolutely perfect. The chicken was crispy and tender, coated in a rich, flavourful Japanese curry sauce. The sticky rice was cooked to perfection and accompanied by a fresh side salad. I was so impressed that I sent compliments to the chef twice.
Original Chicken Ramen: A generous portion, filled with noodles, tender chicken, egg, and plenty of fragrant, flavourful broth. My nephew said it was filling, satisfying, and absolutely delicious.
Salmon Maki: While I didn’t try it due to potential sesame contamination, my nephew thoroughly enjoyed it as a light, tasty side dish.
The portion sizes were generous, and everything was fresh, beautifully balanced, and full of flavour. My nephew even took home the remainder of his ramen, which filled a small bowl for another meal later — great value all around.
💰 Value for Money This restaurant is excellent value for money. The prices are competitive considering the quality, portion sizes, and authentic taste. You get the chance to try a variety of Japanese dishes, which can often be more expensive elsewhere, especially when halal meat is included. There are also meal deals, 20% off for click-and-collect orders, and free delivery on orders over £25, making it even more appealing.
🌱 Accessibility, Dietary Needs & Options The restaurant is halal, which was fantastic to see and really opened up the menu options for us. They also cater for allergies, with clear allergen advice on the menu encouraging customers to speak with staff or call ahead. This was very reassuring and shows they take it seriously. There are vegetarian options available, but I didn’t notice vegan-specific dishes — though there may be some. Accessibility note: The dining area is upstairs and accessed by a flight of stairs, and I didn’t notice a lift. The corridors upstairs are also narrow, so it may not be suitable for wheelchairs or prams ( unless foldable)
🌟 Final Thoughts This was a truly enjoyable and memorable dining experience. Great service, delicious food and vibrant atmosphere- will...

Good points: The rice was absolutely on point, 10/10. Each individual rice grain was separate. It was not too dry nor too wet. Cooked to perfection! Taste of the food was delicious. Definitely a Western touch on Japanese food but it was nice regardless.
Bad points: My miso soup came with a bug/fly in the soup. When I pointed this out to our waiter, he told me it was normal and to just try and "stir it". I laughed and insisted he brought me a new one. The replacement was bug free thankfully. The "prawn" katsu curry. What a strange way of making prawn katsu. Whole prawns in a block of katsu batter/bread crumbs and deep fried. Although the flavour was good, we will not be ordering this again. When it was time to pay for our food, the waiter told us to follow him to the bar where he proceeded to ask us to take out our phones and write them a good Google review there and then. When I agreed and said I would do it at home he seemed disappointed. There was definitely a weird sense of pressure to leave a good review on the spot. He then told us to follow him downstairs to pay for our meal. Being our first time to the restaurant, we were confused to say the least. Instead of waiting for us to follow him, he speedwalked and disappeared down the stairs. We could barely keep up. It turns out the payment area is part of the bubble tea/takeway shop downstairs. We were so confused and weirded out by the whole thing.
All in all, surprisingly tasty and well made food. Although customer service and hospitality needs a big upgrade. I would recommend the restaurant close for a few days and make sure staff training is up to date.
EDIT: I can see why there are so many 5 star reviews. Mr Ritik definitely earns his keep when he ensures customers leave good reviews before payment - by blindsiding them to leave a review...
Read moreAt first I was a little doubtful at the lack of bad reviews but after trying this place out I'm entirely convinced. Don't be put off by the small store or lack of real seating, this place is a must try!
I ordered the beef pho, whereas my friends ordered the curry and rice and fried spring rolls. Everything came extremely quickly.
The beef pho soup was phenomenal, perfectly seasoned. Paired with also great noodles it produces a great combination for soup noodles. The portion size was great, especially for this price - a must recommend.
I tried a bite of the chicken curry which was also excellent. The chicken was extremely juicy and tender, and makes a great combination paired with the curry sauce.
Finally the spring rolls. These aren't what you're probably used to, deep fried and twice the size yet managing to maintain a juicy interior. Absolutely delicious!
My only regret is that I don't live in Coventry so I can't appreciate this every day!

Above is my review from 4 years ago. At the time there were only a 10 or so, all 5 star reviews. I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised.
Since then I'd forgotten and lost the address, only to rediscover it with the help of said friend. Everything I said then I still holds up.
This time the restaurant was open, so we were able to sit down properly. The inside is pretty run down, and the server's English was borderline but the food made up for it. If it's a nice day, I'd reccomend ordering to go and finding a nice bench instead.
This time I went for the curry and my friend for the pho. Just as fast, just as tasty whilst the portions were much larger than I remeber. Unless you are in a large group, I wouldn't reccomend ordering too many sides.
Now that I remeber the place, I'm hoping to return and...
