Alongside the Good Earth, it is hard to think of a restaurant that has been open longer in Leicester. Tucked just off Belvoir Street, this has always been something of a hidden gem in an unassuming building. A very warm welcome from owner Francesco and his team of well-trained and happy staff. The service here is super well done, I must say. The restaurant had two floors and is way bigger than it looks from the outside. There is also a roof terrace out the back. We were able to have a large party, and the staff were attentive in getting our large order and drinks for the first time. Onto the food, expect classic Italian dishes that the UK loves. Big simple salads, and you can get chips if you want. This, perhaps combined with the hosting, is why Casa Romana has remained popular for so long. Expect solid tasting food here but not overly finessed. I would probably say the specials on the board and the fish were the best dishes we had in our group. For me, the sauces on a few dishes did need a little more love here and there. It seems by and large that some dishes are better presented and finished than others. Portions were hearty. The price point and quality of wine I think many will appreciate in a restaurant that has a busy but somewhat intimate vibe in a well-used and well loved space by city diners.

I want to support independent businesses and I know things are tough but... - starter was good (goat's cheese and grilled veggies) for £11. I asked for a little oil to put on it. Extra charge £1. - other half had garlic mushrooms for £8.50. Seven mushrooms. No bread. - my main course was monkfish and tagliatelle. The portion was extremely small and the fish was over cooked. I complained and was told that was the portion size.£27.50. It tasted ok, but swimming in cream. I was hungry so ate it unfortunately. - husband's rare steak. It was cold in the middle. £32.50. Fries were extra. - accompanying "salad" was a bit of hacked up lettuce and tomato. Service was rushed. Another one along in a minute type of thing. It was supposed to be a nice birthday meal and very different from the last experience. £100. Wow.

We have been here before and thought we would give it another go. Won't be going back! Very chaotic, and you are crammed like sardines! If you are running a small menu, you need to deliver those items perfectly, and unfortunately, they didn't at Casa Romana! Very expensive £13.95 for a very basic chicken arbiata with ONLY 9, 1cm cubed pieces of chicken, it was like a childs portion! £5 for a bottle of Peroni. Nearly £5 for 3 small slices of garlic bread only toasted on one side and very dry.. Garlic mushrooms were broiled in a vat of butter, and you ONLY got 6/7 mushrooms The staff were okay, but not very attentive, and the owner/head waiter was rude when challenged! We found ourselves in Macdonald's, and yes, the food there had more taste! Wouldn't recommend Casa Romana

The be kind message has clearly not landed with this place! I was shouted at and hung up on by a very rude member of staff. Absolutely horrendous service even before visiting the restaurant. My husband and I had a gift voucher from friends as a birthday gift on 16th Feb last year, we’ve not been able to visit due to our personal circumstances and this would have been our first night out without our little one in over a year. We booked to go today as we finally secured some childcare and noticed the validity of the voucher was only 6 months so had expired. I called in advance to see if they would honor the voucher as I’ve experienced this in the past and other venues are more than happy to extend 6 months to 12. I was initially told they would honor the voucher, only for the restaurant to call back and say no they will not honor. I explained that we had not had an opportunity to visit yet as we have a small child and childcare is scarce and questioned the reason why they would not extend the voucher when they have put money in their till and to this point provided no service for it. I was shouted at and told it’s not about the money in the til and everyone’s life is hard but we have to stick to the rules! Intriguing that he assumed to know my life was hard, I certainly hasn’t insinuated that, I tried to discuss this further and the man hung up on me! It’s a shame as we would have undoubtedly spent far more than the voucher was worth and we were really looking forward to visiting the restaurant. I certainly won’t be visiting this restaurant now and feel really disappointed that our friends gave them Money for nothing. Terrible service, no Compassion, rude and aggressive, none of the qualities you’d expect from a customer...

Absolutely appalled with the customer service, food and hygiene! We were given out of date desserts, which one of the member of my party actually consumed - a health risk! The desserts, as confirmed by the restaurant owner, was made 2 days prior and had a fishy smell and tasted absolutely awful. He wasn’t very happy when we decided to not order a replacement of the same desserts, as in this situation anyone would be put off. We also didn’t want to risk contracting any health issues due to it. He mentioned he had fresh ones in the back - then why not serve those in the first place? It wasn’t our fault, yet we were made to feel really bad about this situation.

Additionally, the lady at the front desk was incredibly rude and abrupt from the minute we entered the restaurant. We felt unwelcome and uneasy. Although, our waitress was very kind - thanks to her we decided to actually stay and have a meal instead of walking out!

Overall, we will not be coming back to this restaurant. They need to drastically improve on how they treat their customers, and check the food they are serving. Many italian restaurants in leicester provide an excellent customer experience - and we were really hoping this one...
