It’s with a heavy heart I leave this review, this pub always delivered and is our anniversary place…on this occasion after my partner battling cancer all year and me suffering a stroke we hadn’t been anywhere, I spent £320 on a hotel for a Christmas present so I could take my partner for a meal at our favourite place…unfortunately we got to the door and a door lady refused entry saying she watched me approaching and I was unsteady on my feet, well suffering a stroke I have been struggling to keep my balance, I explained we had a table booked, the door lady went for the manager, I tried to explain I booked this for my partner as she had a really tough year battling cancer…the lady manager kind of said my mum has got cancer but I can’t let you in…I thought it was horrible for her to say this as it took me so much to get her the confidence to go out again, I turned and stumbled due to my paralysis on one side and the manager said this is why your not coming in..I guess you don’t like to invite disabled people in…trust me we eat there a lot and I get harassed by drunk people every time, but we love the food..it didn’t end there, we were pointed out by doorman on the way home which really knocked my partners confidence again, it appears they radio to other clubs…we had no intention to go in another pub we just wanted our meal and go home…I’ve never witnessed such discrimination against disability before…I’m now trying to build up my partners confidence again…even though this was our go to place I will...

Was bad weather outside and busy in the city centre because of the races so came here and was happy to have a seat and was having a good evening until one of the younger staff behind the bar decided my partner was too drunk to get served. We had only just got to Chester so barely touched a drink. Walking in a straight line talking normally and not shouting or swearing or causing any hassle but yet we have to go back out in the rain because of poor judgment. They had a dj who we was sat by so my partner asked if he could play her favourite song because it was near dead in there and he was more than happy to. She’s very passionate about singing. So I guess if you hire a dj and you sing in a pub for 3 minutes on a Saturday night then you are deemed unfit to consume...

Normally the main menu food is very exceptional and delicious, however, their recent Christmas Menu was a bit of a disappointment - every turkey dinner had a Yorkshire pudding, all except the roast beef....????? We did enquire about this and this was quickly rectified. There was plenty on the plate that couldn't be faulted, however...

The christmas pudding looked like it had been under the carvery knife...in other words, very fine slices of rectangle pudding with a drizzle of brandy sauce.

It came as no surprise that we were the party who booked that evening..perhaps other people knew something that we didn't

C'mon City Tavern...you can do better than this. You have a lovely main menu with wide variety of choices and yet your Christmas Menu is a...

Found this place on Google maps whilst looking for somewhere to watch the rugby on a Saturday afternoon, and was not disappointed. Despite it being busy, we got great seats on a leather sofa upstairs on the mezzanine, facing a big screen, best seats in the house, perfect. Easy to overlook the upstairs area, so give it a check if it's busy upstairs. Used the App to order 2 for 1 cocktails and spirits to the table, happy days. Service was speedy, staff were all very friendly. I recommend the bags of chorizo crisps and the biggest bag of pork scratchings I've ever eaten 😁👍🏻🍺

We only popped in for a quick drink. We ended up staying all afternoon, watched footie, had lunch and more drinks! It is a lovely town pub. Very spacious with a mezzanine floor. Lots of seating and booths. Good for small or large groups. Great for watching sport with lots of TV's and some in booths, which can be reserved. Tye service was exceptional for a pub. Table service upstairs and very friendly. Food is also very good. Highly recommend.

Service we great, the waitress was friendly. We ordered the curry, sausages and mash, side of veggies and cheesy garlic bread. The side of veggies was underwhelming. The mash tasted like it came out of a packet. The sausages were great. I highly recommend the curry and the cheesy garlic bread. I grabbed the 2 for 1 cocktail which was yummy too.
