The Hampton has been a reliable and regular venue for our large group for years, drinks are not too overpriced, staff are usually efficient and affable, and last night we bagged a large table and settled in. After the garden closed, my friend and I decided to go for a cigarette, but we decided not to go to the cupboard sized, dank and depressing space out back which is reserved for smokers. Instead we went out front with a plan to wander up the road so as not to break 'pub rules'. On our way outside, Tom ( himself, on his way to smoke in front of the pub on the street) a small bearded barman tried to insist that we must go to the horrid space out back. We explained that we'd prefer to go out front and wander up the road a little, so as not to upset any neighbors and cause hassle for the pub. Tom in the meantime stood on the street in front of the pub, along with a couple who were also smoking, to whom he didn't say boo ( presumably because one of them was a tall Man...) After quietly smoking our cigarettes, we returned to our group of friends and I went to buy a round of drinks. Tom greeted me with a creepy sneer on his face and claiming I'd had too much to drink he refused to serve me. Please bear in mind, at this time I had drunk 2 pints of lager an a gin and tonic, so this was obviously not true and he was clearly attempting to punish me for politely declining to smoke, where he himself preferred not to smoke.Tom no doubt felt quite pleased with himself after his entirety unreasonable decision, but I guess when it's not his business or his profits, that's easy. Clearly, The Hampton is now off my list of...
Read moreAfter a number of recommendations we were really looking forward to Easy Tiger but were very disappointed. We booked the OctoberBest menu which is a great opportunity to showcase your venue and food to the locals and keep them coming back for more. We paid in advance through Eventbrite and so you got the impression the staff didn't have the incentive of gratuities and wanted minimum interaction with the clients. Despite booking over a week in advance we were sat on bar stools by the back door to the patio which was freezing. We were told to go to the bar to receive the beer and then a selection of very small dishes on a Thali tray were slapped in front of you (no explanation of what we were eating) and then I suppose you just leave. The food was actually delicious but so small - the 'dessert' was served in a ramekin. There are so many great Indian restaurants in Brighton such as Curry Leaf Cafe offering great food with exceptional service and an overall experience that Easy Tiger lacks. Primarily it's a pub, offering small Indian plates with very...
Read moreI had been really looking forward to trying Easy Tiger after moving to Brighton in January. I'd heard good things and my favourite restaurant up north was an Indian street food restaurant so hoped it would compare. Unfortunately, it didn't. I was really impressed at the selection of vegan options and I dined with 2 other vegans. None of us were impressed by the food at all. The masala wedges were not very fresh and shop bought. They were bland with no seasoning and the ketchup was.. well, ketchup. Some of the popadoms were soft and stale; others tasted really bad. And I ordered a mushroom dish which I left half of. It had a fresh weird texture and didn't taste very fresh at all. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because I really liked the feel of the pub and the staff were sweet. Also, they have a good selection of vegan beers. It may be that the non vegan food is better as I spoke to a friend who ate there the same night who really...
