Friary Leicester — Restaurant in England

Booked a table with some friends & purposely asked if the fact we had an under 18 with us would be a problem as the time would be 19.30 on a Saturday night. Staff member at lunch time said it was no problem. Arrived in good time & was asked for ID for said person & was told that under 18's are not allowed in the vicinity at the time 19.00, even though we had again spoken to a member of staff behind the bar would said they thought were allowed until 20.00 or 20.30, they weren't sure. I assume it was then the manager along with the security came across & said that under 18's were not allowed & after a short conversation we left, walking past the table that had our reservation still on it. Looking on the website it states that under 18's are allowed until 20.00, so whoever it was that asked us to leave obviously has no idea what the company rules are. Not only did that leave a sour taste in the parties mouths but it upset the under 18 individual and reduced her to tears. As a 56 year old who does a lot of travelling & who likes to congratulate good service when appropriate I have to say it is by far the worst I have ever been treated & will definitely give this location a wide berth when I am back in the area. We went here for dinner on a Sunday as a family, my husband, myself & our 10 year old at about lunch time. The food itself was OK. My son had a burger & he thought it was very nice. I had a curry & it was OK, my husband wanted the large mixed grill however they said he couldn't have it as they did not have the necessary ingredients for a large mixed grill which in essence was only an extra sausage & egg so I'm not sure how they couldn't really get around this, he ended up having the sunday dinner which he said was nice. The toilets were not the cleanest & 2 of the toilets lacked any paper & another 1 was dirty which is really down to customers but the signing sheet for toilet checks had not been completed since the Tuesday. The staff were lovely however & the main reason why I have rated this as a 4. They were very friendly & helpful & checking if everything was OK. We would go back here again as my son really did like the burger but I would have a different meal, it was very good value for money as there were a lot of meals on 2 for £7.99 which was what my son & I had so you certainly can't moan at...

Following on my from original review below I decided to try again and booked another table for Saturday 20th November- brilliant time had, arrived at just before 5pm got some drinks and then asked about table - straight away the gentleman went to booth and cleaned table. Food was absolutely delicious only downside was the 15 minute wait for drinks ordered on the app. Throughly enjoyable 3 hours spent and will definitely be back again, well done.

Original Review 30th October- Booked and paid deposit for table for myself, husband and daughter for 4pm for food and then to watch 5.30 footie on Saturday, arrived at 4 and no table reserved, apparently you shouldn’t be able to book for same day (booked at 10am) as they don’t look at bookings taken on the day. Was finally shown a totally inadequate table which would barely fit 3 drinks on let along 3 meals. Totally disappointed as The Friary has always been a favourite for drinks and cocktails when we stay in Leicester after the football.
