Great North Pie Company — Restaurant in England

I have to admit that my partner and I almost took up residency at this amazingly good cafe the week we were in Ambleside on holiday. This is as good as it gets, whether you're having the pie and mash for lunch, or the bacon butty and souffle omelette for breakfast - the chef-made sides of baked beans and mushy peas are great too. The fact it was at the end of the road our holiday home was in made it really hard to walk past!! The lads who work there are really friendly and happy to give advice on the local area (but not the recipe for the brown sauce!). We felt quite sad saying goodbye on our last day, but cheered up on buying 8 pies to take home, knowing we can also get them via the internet!! (Can you add the brown sauce to the line up please?!!) I've never gone on so much about pastry products before - but they really are THAT good!! Highly and wholeheartedly...

This pie shop has been on my radar for a long time as they make some bold claims and have a long list of awards for their pies. We finally got the chance to pay a visit March 2020. The place is cosy and impeccably clean and smart, I really liked the minimal decor. The waitress was warm, friendly and really enthusiastic about the company. We ordered and when our pies arrived they looked and tasted amazing, I liked they were served in a dish on top mash and covered in really thick and tasty gravy. If I'm being picky, I'd have liked a veg side (peas or carrots) just to balance the dish. But overall it was outstanding. Is it the "Best pie in Britain?" I don't know but I thoroughly recommend you go try them and decide...

A life changing experience. Order the mushy peas.

My wife and I happened upon this pie shop before a hike on a Thursday. It was a bit busy inside but the owner was very accommodating. We ordered the cheese and onion pie with mash, gravy and mushy peas to share, latte and softdrink £22. Whoever balanced these flavours is a true master of their craft. Every element complimented the other with deep richness. The peas took me by surprise. I have never encountered such a flavour profile. I had to ask for the recipe, which the owner humbly shared. My only regret is that we're only staying near Ambleside for one day. Also order a coffee he's mastered that craft...
