Arriving as a group of 11, we were welcomed and shown to a variety of table. On reviewing the menu, and looking at the kids faces, we decided that one of the Mums and kids would go elsewhere. However, the 5 adults that stayed were not disappointed. I choose the soup and sandwich option £7.95. Leek & Potato soup was tasty. The Cumrian Ham Sandwich, was well filled and served with a side of crisps, coleslaw and salad drizzled with Balsamic Glaze. Again, very tasty. Decor was a mix of Pigs, Charlie Chaplin, Comic Books and children's characters from the 60's....the pig theme did seem a little out of sync with the rest. Toilets seemed clean and well kept, though down a steep flight of stairs. Overall very friendly, efficient, tasty and reasonably priced for the area. Definitely recommend this to all, except fussy children and...

Originally we went to a place round the corner, but it was full and came in here as second choice. The decor left us a little underwhelmed, but our scones and tea didn't! Tea was amazing, and the scones were absolutely bang on. Proper china cup and saucer and leaf tea served in a teapot. Amazing!

Scone was huge, warm, served with clotted cream, jar of jam and a strawberry. It was a good scone too, looked a little burned but wasn't when you bit into it.

Service and music was great. Toilets were cool, and the kids loved that the doors were lined with old newspapers and comics.

It's just not your new style, wood lined coffee bar style decor. It's very much old school tea room, but in that lies exactly what was special...

I almost ate here twice first time in Dec 23'. The scone of my cream tea was dry and tasteless and with 2 warmish coffees was really expensive. The second time I went there in May 24 it was on my walk and it was hammering down typically for Ambleside, it was about 3.30 - 4ish and just as I was about to open the door, 2 members of staff appeared saying 'we're closed' pushed us out the way as they locked up and laughed.

Fine.... close but dont laugh, maybe say 'sorry we are closed now and call back again'

Because of these 2 experiences, I cannot recommend them or will I bother...

If you're looking for an English cream tea shop with beautiful tea cups, teapot and saucers, delicious scones cream and jam and amazing cakes, this is the place! For our friend from Belgium this was the perfect quintessential tea shop to take her to show her what a real cream tea is like! The staff are so lovely and everything about the place was wonderful, a great atmosphere in there. We had cream tea, sticky toffee pudding, coffee (mocha) and teapots of tea, everything perfect! Thank you!!

Such a cute little cafe we just happened to stumble across. They had a range of gluten free options (perfect!) and the lovely waitress talked me through the menu explaining what I could have. They could do any of the sandwiches with GF bread, most salads were GF and they also had jacket potatoes. They even had GF brownies! The food was delicious, staff were great and the whole cafe was beautiful. Would definitely recommend this place for lunch (especially if you’re looking for GF food)!
