Only putting one star because it is required in order to leave a review. Otherwise, personally it would be minus stars if possible. I ordered two passionfruit martinis at the bar at £20. The ‘bar maid’ with the black and blonde hair, gave us stale martinis that had been sitting there a while. I asked for FRESH cocktails at £20. She pretty much rolled her eyes and gave us orange juice in a fancy glass. Even turned the singers microphone off before he finished his set. Now, considering I have been going to this bar for years and now live here… this one specific staff member has put me, my family, friends and all visitors of mine off from visiting… the Lily Bar is currently missing out on potentially 15 customers due to a member of staff. We come from the NE of England, and just know that having this specific member of staff you employ, in Newcastle or Durham area, wouldn’t last in terms of employability due to the lack of intolerance towards punters. Actual disgrace. Will not...

Whenever we're in Ambleside we always call in The Lily, if only so that my husband can get a pint of his favourite beer, Loweswater Gold. On previous visits we've stayed a while and had food, which has always been good, but this visit was spoiled by a very noisy, obnoxious customer. Really felt for the customers who were waiting for food. We quickly drank up and left. As it was a busy bank holiday afternoon, with children around, it really would have been advisable for staff to have a quiet word with the guy to tell him to use his indoor voice, but they didn't. Ah well, hopefully next time we visit he won't be there. I'll probably be able to hear him from the other side...

Quite quiet when we arrived at 7.30pm but did get a bit busier later. Has a pub type vibe/feel with quite loud music but food was very nice and much more of restaurant than pub quality. Seem to be starting out with cocktails so not too many options but the one I had - a raspberry and elderflower Collins was large and tasty (£8.50). Service was very good. Food arrived promptly portions were large. The sea bass risotto was delicious and the seafood spaghetti had loads of seafood 👍 All in all a very good experience. Like another reviewer however we also noticed a bit of a problem with lots of flies buzzing about which was quite off putting while trying to eat. Dogs...

Words are inadequate. Gareth gave us friendly and excellent service. He made us feel completely welcome and poured a perfect pint. The chef is a genius, and the atmosphere is lovely. The fish cakes from the bargain early bird menu are perfectly seasoned all fish; no fillers except the perfectly crispy crust. The mussels and caper sauce divine. My husband had the cheeseburger and charcuterie also from the early bird menu and said it was delicious. We've been traveling around the UK for 6 weeks and this is the best meal we have had so far.

Really great place this, we stopped for drinks twice and food once during our week in Ambleside. The food was terrific, with the burger truly one of the best I've tasted. 👌 It was perfect after coming off the fells. Kids enjoyed thier portions which I didn't even think they did a kids menu so that was another bonus. Great service as well including making sure we were aware of live music times as we had the kids with us. On top was the beer - had Loweswater Gold each time, check out the picture for how good that was.
