Nola: A Perfect Symphony of Flavors and Jazz
Nola isn't just a restaurant; it's an experience. From the moment we stepped into its cozy, speakeasy-esque atmosphere, we were transported to a world of romance and refined enjoyment. We visited on a Tuesday evening, drawn in by the promise of live jazz, and Nola delivered on every front, exceeding our expectations in every way.
We had pre-booked, mentioning that we were celebrating both a birthday and an anniversary, and the team at Nola truly went above and beyond to make our evening special. They clearly took our request to heart, crafting a truly unforgettable experience.
Let's talk about the music: the live jazz was absolutely sublime, creating the perfect backdrop for our special occasion. It was sophisticated, soulful, and just the right volume to allow for conversation. They even sang happy birthday as a surprise as well as taking requests!
The food was, without a doubt, the best we experienced in York. Nola's fine dining tapas were exquisite, each dish a miniature work of art bursting with flavor. The creativity and quality of the ingredients shone through in every bite.
And the cocktails? Equally impressive! They were expertly crafted, innovative, and perfectly complemented the food.
The service was impeccable. The staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making us feel truly valued and cared for. They anticipated our needs without being intrusive, adding to the overall sense of relaxed elegance.
Honestly, I can't fault a single thing about our evening at Nola. From the captivating music to the exceptional food and drinks, and the outstanding service, everything was absolutely perfect. It was the ideal setting for our special occasion, making our birthday and anniversary truly memorable.
If you're looking for a unique and unforgettable dining experience in York, especially if you appreciate live jazz and exquisite food, Nola is an absolute must. I wholeheartedly recommend their Tuesday jazz nights and can't thank the team enough for making our celebration so incredibly special. We will...
Read moreI had visited Rustique Lendal for my graduation meal in July and would highly recommend for the food and general service from wait staff, however the supervising/management could do with a little more politeness and improvement. The food was absolutely divine and completely affordable, with the set menu expansive and proving hard to make a decision due to the amount of choice (everything sounded so good!) Myself and my family had an amazing time, though it would've been perfect if we didn't feel rushed due to panicked staff and a very pushy supervisor/manager. He was quite rude when we turned up a little late (5-10 minutes and we called in advance to say we were going to be a little late due to the business of the graduation) and kept coming to the table to remind us that we needed to be off the table in X amount of minutes. It felt like a countdown and made us feel like we could not sit and enjoy our meal that was celebrating a big milestone in my life. By the time it came for us to leave there were plenty of tables free and unreserved and they were able to sit the party that we're booked for our table after us anyway, so it felt like that rushing and pushing of our party had been completely unnecessary! Apart from this uncomfortable treatment we were able to fully enjoy the delicious food and give high commendations to both kitchen and front of house wait staff for making this a very special meal. I especially recommend the Brie starter, the mushroom starter and the goats cheese starter, as well as the confit duck leg, pork shank and mash or steak main courses. These are just a few that my family selected and fully enjoyed. I also returned when visiting York to visit coursemates and had another great experience, with food still delicious and service visibly relaxed and less stressed due to a lower level of customers. Pictured is the Baked Brie starter with fruit 'jam' and...
Read moreI'm extremely disappointed and confused with Nolan's. We have a varied pallet when it comes to food and a very good mixed diet exploring middle Eastern, European, Asian and American dishes so we thought based on the reviews, photos and venue that this would be a great experience. It's small meals which was what we were looking for after a heavy day yesterday. We paid £60 in total consisting of 2 soft drinks, 4 meals and 2 sides and left unsatisfied, out of pocket and disappointed. The scallops were vile, maybe down to my personal preference but the sauce was thick and had split and tasted, being polite here, disgusting and the added bacon didn't bring anything new to it. Those alone were £10. Outrageous really. The Duck spring rolls were good but again the sweet chilli sauce didn't add any thing to it so we used this for our fries. The Dirty rice was precisely that-dirty, very bland and extremely dry. The Chicken burger was rubbery but the salmon was lovely, cooked extremely well and fell off the skewer. The staff were pleasant enough and the service was quick. Not too sure what went wrong or whether this has a reputation of being good and is on a downward spiral but we will certainly not be back under any circumstances. We're also not local but had a great time in York and I'll review those other restaurants as a comparison. And to be brutally honest, we'd would have had a better experience with a chain like Nados, Zizis, Coaté brassiere or Pizza hut! Sorry Nolan's but you didn't leave a positive...
