Oriental Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in England

After reading such great reviews my family and I were really excited to come here - and we managed to get a table without booking so we were thrilled. The place looks brilliant and clean, and staff were friendly. However first impressions was that it was a bit more expensive than we were expecting - but this just made us think it was a testament to how good it was. We ordered the salt and pepper chicken, beef in peking sauce, sweet and sour chicken balls, and sides of egg fried rice, soft noodles and chips. First thing to note is the portion sizes were quite small, for the price we were expecting more. Secondly, the salt and pepper chicken is a family favourite but here it was sadly bland and tasteless, a huge disappointment. Visiting from North America (I’m British) with my American partner. Service was a little cold, food was pretty good. My partner paid with her American Credit Card and the server went into the back with the chip and pin machine and her card and came back 5 mins later. A little odd but I assumed the card wouldn’t work on chip and pin as cards normally swipe in the U.S. it took a few weeks for the card to be charged, a few weeks later a second charge for a similar (but not the same) was run on the card. Upon calling the credit card company we found out the restaurant had manually “pan keyed” both transactions. I can only imagine you thought you could scam us because we were tourists. Was in this restaurant today had good reviews so decided to try it. I had a beef curry fried rice and my husband a chicken curry fried rice. It looked an ok restaurant but a bit expensive so thought we’d give it a try. We both couldn’t believe how small the portions were and honestly I’m not a big eater. The curry itself was ok probably 6/10 but the portions were the smallest curry I’ve ever seen in my life. I eat Chinese most weekends. The portions honestly wouldn’t fill my 8 year old grandson.
