If you really enjoy authentic spicey Indian food, this is probably the most exciting restaurant in York. You see, the other restaurants follow the same styles and menu yet here at Taas the dishes are more authentic, varied and frankly intriguing. I invited my close friends Mark and Suz and my cousin Sue to join me for a meal last night. It was my treat. Frankly, I couldn't believe the price - it was such amazing value! We sat at a corner table and chatted as the food arrived. The starters were all vegan and amazingly tasty and different. Then I had the veg Annapurna main - a mix of small dishes almost like a taster plate. The waiter asked me on a "scale of 1 to 10, how hot would I like it?" "10" I said. It was perfectly done. The service was good too. If you're reading this then you're obviously looking for an Indian style food and if you choose to come here you won't be disappointed with the food or the service, I promise.

This restaurants has a unique laid back atmosphere, great place to chat and plenty of seats. One of the best Indian restaurants I’ve been too, great food and owner welcoming. The Lamb Thali was very yummy, you can choose spice level on a scale of 10, I went for 8 and for a spice lover that was my limit. Luckily the Thali came with yogurt so I could mix it up. I liked the variety of dishes in the set, lamb curry, dal, potato curry, potato salads, perfectly seasoned, the red sauce was the thing that chocked me up with the spice and I mixed it with yogurt to dip the popadom. You could order nan bread separately to dip in the sauce, there’s definitely enough sauce for nan. Mango lassi was too sweet for me, owner asked if I wanted ice in it and I chose not - maybe it would’ve been better with ice. I had a great experience there, they really tailored the food to my preference.

We were craving for some Nepalese dumplings after a week long stay in country cottage/ hikes and this place did not disappoint but blew us with the amazing authentic traditional flavours in each bite, Chicken Mo:Mo was so tasty I would probably come back to this place when I’m next in and around York, Had lamb curry thali set, really full of flavour with authentic slow cooked meat & side dish. My partner had paneer thakali set which was so soft tasty and healthy - full of flavours and not too much over powering with spices. All in, go for chicken Momo for sure if you are a non veg, There are more dish options which are amazing ! The hospitality and service was great, ambiance regardless the busy atmosphere and servicing everyone with right attitude and amazing service and wonderful smiles 😊 Recommended 👍🏽

Nice food---my lamb was a little chewy but my wife's dumplings were excellent. Waiter wasn't the most polite at first, but fine.

We have a TasteCard giving 2 for 1 meals. When the bill came, the sides were charged in full. They clearly thought this was the case as their had a print out (from their website?) saying what was excluded. However on TasteCard website, they have Terms and Conditions giving exemptions, but no mention of sides.

Waiter then was pretty rude initially refusing to reduce. Then when we showed Ts & Cs on TasteCard app, manhandled our phone to look. Not cool at the best of times. Very bad during an international pandemic when he wasn't wearing gloves! Eventually conceded and brought new bill. Still 50p too expensive, but we let that slide.

Also saw him take card machine with other customer's card in it away from the customer, much to her dismay, who told him that he mustn't do that.

We realised after leaving that they didn't collect any details for NHS Track & Trace and had no system for doing do---appeared that no-one was asked.

In summary, good food but rule breaking, a bit rude and try to get away with over charging. Without the issues, would've been 4*s---just...

As this place is on tastecard, I visited with a couple of friends for tea. It’s a small restaurant, so I would book a table to be sure.

Two of us went for Chicken Tikka Massala. I would have appreciated another couple of pieces of chicken, but the thick, creamy sauce had a lovely rich, mild taste and there was plenty for dipping my garlic Naan into (we got a Naan each; they came in quartered slices). The server offered to make one of the dishes vegan for our other friend. We shared two portions of Pilau rice between us.

I’d give top marks for service without a doubt. The staff were smiley, chatty and very accommodating. The music being played in the restaurant was a little…odd. At one point it sounded like elevator music and kind of distracted us from our dining experience.

The soft drinks are inexpensive, and since the tastecard essentially got us one free meal, we each paid about £13.00 overall, which is very good value.

I would...

Wow! One of the very best Indian/Nepalese meals I've ever eaten. Both my wife and I were blown away by the food. We started with the obligatory poppadoms and chutney - look out for the tomato chutney which is gorgeous - and some spring rolls which were nothing special really (and a bit odd on a Nepalese/Indian menu to be honest). For our main courses I had a chicken Biryani which was full of chicken, spiced to my liking (1-10...I had a 7 and that was just right) with a curry sauce filled with lovely vegetables. This was served with a pot of yoghurt to cool down the mouth but which just made it even more delicious. My wife had the chicken Gurkha, a Nepalese curry. She raved about all the different flavours she was tasting. She doesn't really do spicy and it came just right. Couple that with a bottle of Everest Gold beer it truly was one of the very best meals of this type of cuisine I've ever eaten. (The service was excellent - the one man serving was on...
